Episode 1 Synopsis/Summary The Vagabond. Once a decommissioned tramp freighter, is now an independent shipping vessel for her ragtag crew trying to scratch out a living in the universe. Suddenly, she is destroyed in a fiery explosion and all hands are lost, but before the explosion, and before being hunted by a motherless loanshark, a slave owner, a gay bounty hunter, and an alien race so terrifying that their leader is named “mike, Destroyer of Worlds,” It was just a ship without a crew. Let’s go back to the beginning and meet the crew.
Daniel Deuce JR Deuce sees himself as Butch Cassidy, Starbuck and Han Solo all rolled up into one. Actually, it’s more like Duck Dodgers. He thinks he can cruise through life with a cocksure grin, an arrogant swagger and a few quick words. But when all else fails, run like Hell! The son of Daniel Deuce SR, an accomplished MIA pilot, Deuce JR’s personal choices in life to dodge making an honest living has left him somewhat estranged with his family. The only relationship he has with family is a tenuous one with his Uncle Richard “Dick” Deuce. Proposed look, no actor in mind as of yet.
Virgil Ray Conway Virge has been best friends with Deuce since they were kids. The son of two vets, his father a stern career military man and his mother a veterinarian, Virge grew up somewhat modest. Although militarily trained from a young age, he eschewed the stern military upbringing of his father and leaned more towards the compassion of his mother. Virge carries himself with the demeanor of a surfer or a neo-hippie, choosing rather to go with the flow than to make waves. Both Deuce and Virge walk the grey path between good and bad, Virge most often falls on this side of good and is almost a moral compass and conscience to Deuce’s slightly darker side. Proposed look, no actor in mind as of yet.
Krystall Nova Krystall Nova was raised in a rich household of new money. Extravagance was all around her, but she wanted more. She found herself bored and one day shoplifted just for the thrill of it. The feeling was intoxicating so she continued to fill the void left in her being spoiled little rich girl by continuously taking more and more risks, stealing more and more. The closer she got to getting caught the more the adrenaline kicked in and the more she loved it. It made her feel alive. Soon she had a few run ins with the law, but her parents would bail her out, each time swearing it was the last. This only furthered making her feel invincible. The close calls upped the ante though, so she turned to con jobs and drifting. She felt that looking into the eyes of the person you were stealing from made the prize that much sweeter. Proposed actress interested in role.
Barnes (full name unknown) Deuce and Virge met Barnes while avoiding the real life by spending time at Penrose University. Barnes, the illegitimate son of the campus maintenance man and a university literature professor, is a bit of a dichotomy. He lives in what can best be described as a tool shed on the campus making his way the same way his father before him had, as a maintenance man, but in his spare time he indulged his thirst for knowledge. He is quite content making his way as a manual laborer leaving his mind free to wander and contemplate the mysteries of the Universe. Barnes simple looks are deceiving and he is quite happy being underestimated because that way he can be left largely alone to his own pursuits. Proposed look, no actor in mind as of yet.
Oka (oh-kuh) AKA the little space monkey AKA the mouth less alien Very little is known about Oka or his race to everyone on board. Oka has no visible mouth or nose and is apparently amphibious. His skin is a moist and white with a certain pale blue-green under the surface. On his head are three yellowy fingernail like ridges, one that goes from the widow’s peak to the back of the head and the other two form a ridge over the recessed tympanic membranes that are apparently used for hearing in order to avoid predators on their home world. His eyes are large and expressive. His body is thin and lithe, wiry and sleek. Oka’s race ingests nutrients and minerals through the skin while in a nutrient bath or in the highly nutrient rich underwater vents of his home world. They apparently communicate in the water through chemicals released through the skin of one and absorbed into that of another. On land they rely on non-verbal hand gestures, body language, slight color variations and pheromones. Oka’s race, whatever race that might be, matures in rapid growth spurts, possibly beneficial to avoid being eaten at a young age. They are highly intelligent and learn incredibly fast. Whew, that’s a lot of information about a race we know nothing about! Official make-up test by Tim Hayes (monsterfx.net)
The Darrens AKA THE CLONES Darren Seven is the owner and operator of the Lucky Seven Junk and Stuff, which specializes in selling junk parts. Along with Darren Seven are his clone brothers. Some of them who know about dealing illegal parts and some don’t. The Darren’s have many of the same traits, but one thing all of the Darren’s have in common is a sense of humor. While assisting Deuce and Virge on buying an illegal part for their ship, they are raided by the goons looking for Deuce and Virge. After the attack, Darren Seven and Darren Forty Two accompany Deuce and Virge back to their ship, since their store was destroyed. They are one, or two more of the Vagabond crew. No photos present
