Criteria and Guidelines AND Application Form for the European Week Against
                  Cancer (EWAC) Youth Competition 2013

The EWAC Youth Competition 2013 encourages you, a young person, to learn how
cancer can be prevented, by creating posters that can communicate to other young
people, on what you can do NOW to prevent cancer LATER in life.

As part of the activities for the European Week Against Cancer on the 25th -31st May
this year, the Irish Cancer Society and ECL are organising a poster competition for
youth all over Europe. This competition is being hosted by the Irish Cancer Society.

ECL is responsible for coordinating the European Week Against Cancer (EWAC)
each year, within the framework of the European Commission’s “European
Partnership for Action Against Cancer” (www.epaac.eu).

Eligibility:

       Poster entries to the competition should be submitted in jpg or pdf format
        only.
   Young people must be living and attending school in Europe (EU and Non
        EU).
       This competition is only open to young people aged 10-18 years of age.
       Only one poster per person is permitted.
       All posters must be received by the 19th April 2013.
       Posters can be in your language; however you must provide an English
        translation also with your poster, to assist the judging process.
       Family members of the ECL Secretariat and the Irish Cancer Society Health
        Promotion Team are prohibited from entering the competition.

Categories:

All posters must be related to points 1 to 6 of the European Code Against Cancer (See
attached link) http://www.cancercode.eu/

In keeping with the European Code against Cancer, the categories each person can
choose from are as follows:

Junior Category (10-14yrs)
           No Smoking
           Eating a healthy diet
           Being physically active
           Taking care in the sun
           Avoiding the use of sunbeds

Senior Category (15-18yrs)
            No Smoking
            Eating a healthy diet
            Being physically active
            Limiting alcohol intake
            Avoiding the use of sunbeds
(Please note: The Poster must only illustrate ONE of the themes outlined above).

       The message must be communicated clearly in a way that would help other
        young people to understand what they can do now to prevent getting cancer
        later in life.

       It is very important that posters are displayed in a universal way such that
        young people in other countries will understand the message you are trying to
        convey.

Posters:

       Posters should reflect ONE of the themes outlined above.
       Posters must be your own original artwork. Submissions with copyrighted art
        will not be accepted.
       Any art material or computer software can be used (e.g. paint, ink, coloured
        pencils, photography, PDF, JPG etc)
       Posters must be created by you (not your parents or siblings etc).
   Your names, school or brand names are not allowed on posters.
      Posters must be at least 30x40cm (A3) in size and no bigger than 60x84cm
       (A1).
      Each poster must be emailed in a PDF or a JPG format. We will not accept
       original copy artwork by postal service.

How to Submit:
   Each submission must include a completed/signed application and joint
      release form (SEE ATTACHED) declaring sole ownership and giving
      copyright permission. Applicants must have the consent of their
      parents/guardians to submit an entry.
   Posters must be emailed to ewaccompetition2013@gmail.com
   All posters must be received by the 19th April 2013.
   Competition entrants can scan their poster onto their computer or take a
      picture of their poster and upload onto their computer. However all posters
      must be emailed in a PDF or a JPG format to
      ewaccompetition2013@gmail.com. We will not accept original copy artwork
      by postal service.

Judging Criteria:
All entries will be judged on the following criteria:
     How well did your entry address or convey the theme/category.
     Level of creativity and originality.
     How clear is the message?
     Was the entry appropriate for other young people like you and can they relate
        to it?
     Would other countries and cultures relate to and understand your message on
        your poster?

Judging Procedure:

All posters and entries will be placed and displayed on the Youth Competition -
European Week Against Cancer Facebook page:

      1st voting round will take place among all partners of the European Partnership
       Action Against Cancer. The top 3 from each junior and senior category will be
       shortlisted.

      Voting on shortlisted entries will take place on the ECL Youth Competition
       Facebook page using an online favourite Poll called ‘Polldaddy’. This will
       encourage members of the public across Europe to vote for their category
       favourites. We will link this Facebook page to the Irish Cancer Society pages
       and other European partner and youth friendly pages to encourage
       participation and traffic.

      Winners will be announced at the EWAC conference in Dublin on the 28th
       May 2013
Prizes:

Each category winner will choose either an Ipad Mini or an Ipod Touch

The prizes will be distributed as follows:
