2. Who Is Cristiano Ronaldo?
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most decorated and iconic
football players of my generation and arguably one of the best
footballers on the planet right now . He has immortalized his
name to every single major footballing trophy that exists apart
from the world cup. Yesterday, the talisman added one more
essential trophy to his exhaustive collection and finally achieved
long sought after international glory after successive defeats in
the European Football Tournament , not long after winning the
biggest club football tournament in the world just over a month
ago; The UEFA Champions League.
Staggering.

3. Why on earth should you care if you don’t even
take any interest in football?For a start, he’s the
highest paid athlete in the world. But how is this
man able to create records so out of this world?
His shirt number for both club and country is #7
so in honour of his team number here’s seven
things we can learn from him:

4. Cristiano was spotted by Manchester United and then
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson for his natural flair at a Sporting
Lisbon fixture back in 2004 at the tender age of 18. Ultimately,
he went on to join Manchester United and become a legend.
Sir Alex had to have him under his wing because he was
demonstrating so much potential.
However, his hard work ethic is what has helped to realise his
potential, by working round the clock on and off the pitch. He
was usually the first and last person in the gym and working
harder than any of his team mates on the training ground.

5. Along with his work ethic of steel, Ronaldo’s remarkable drive
to win all the time and take losing very seriously is what makes
him who he is today. Losing is just not an option for the
Portuguese winger.
This is reminiscent of the Good morning America Charlie
Sheen interview back in 2011 where the interviewer diagnosed
the actor for being bi­polar, and Charlie countered that saying
he is diagnosed ‘bi­winning’ and that he is winning here and
there. It’s almost like an infection he can’t shake off, that he
Ronaldo must win and so it’s almost impossible for him to be a
good sportsman and accept a lost, just like his Real Madrid
team mate Gareth Bale who was off to a ‘winning’ start with his
first ever European football championship campaign with his
country Wales.

6. Cristiano’s footballing rival Lionel Messi recently announced that he
was going to retire from international football, despite being
heralded as the best footballer on the planet. Eventually because of
the constructive criticism, he quickly changed his mind and remains
competitive in international football.
This was seemed by the world as being selfish as he couldn’t take
losing anymore and thus he wanted to give up because he is still yet
to achieve footballing glory on the big international stage. In
contrast, there is no such word as ‘giving up’ in Ronnie’s dictionary.
And he reaped the rewards finely in the EURO 2016 final by finally
achieving international glory despite successive close defeats in
international tournaments. As well as having feet of steel in life or in
your workplace to succeed, you’ve got to have a mind of steel.

Ronaldo has earned his captainship for both club and country.
There is no surprise there with his astonishing goal scoring
record (I’ll let you Google this one). Thus, this role in his team
gives him great leverage to encourage his team mates and to
pass on golden nuggets on helping his team to success. There is
no surprise why he has been the main factor to contributing to
the success of the Real Madrid and Portugal football teams; His
desire to win, passion, determination, competitive work ethic and
resilience has transcends through all the players when he is
around. He is a fantastic person of influence and will make a
great manager one day although recently he denies the desire to
become a head coach when he finally hangs up those golden
boots of his.

8. There is no doubt that this guy is talented, but it’s his extreme hard
work ethic that keeps him there and keeps him ahead of his game
and on top of his game. Ronaldo is age 31, an age where it’s not
common for a footballer with a naturally deteriorating level of fitness
and finesse to maintain or even exceed records he has set in the
past.
Former team mate Wayne Rooney who is also captain for club and
country Manchester United and England, has often been criticised for
his form and lack of goal­scoring ability, and thus opted in for the
midfield position rather than the striker role in the England team for
the European championships. This just suggests how Wayne’s fitness
levels and youth is giving out. However, this doesn’t seem to be the
case with the sporting star. His superb work­ethic has kept him
playing a very high level of football. He is even breaking records even
past his biological prime which shouldn’t be possible.
