By 2004 it was Japan's largest retailer by operating income and number of stores, with over 10,000 stores. Seven-Eleven Japan developed an extensive franchise system, with franchise commissions accounting for over 68% of revenue by 2004. It emphasized using technology and data analysis to efficiently manage its large network of stores.
