Don't you wish
that the apostle
Paul had
expanded on
some nuggets he
gave us in
Scripture?
Phil 4:13 (NIV) - "I have learned to be content
whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to
be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I
have learned the secret of being content in any
and every situation, whether well fed or hungry,
whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all
this through him who gives me strength."
What
was the
secret?
He
doesn't
say
In Phil 3:1-6 Paul warns against
continuing to live by works
He
presents
himself as
a Pharisee
of
Pharisees
He now views
his works of
righteousness
as rubbish
His new
righteousness
is in Christ
He urged
the flock on
how to
transition
"But one thing I do: Forgetting
what is behind and straining
toward what is ahead, I press
on toward the goal to win the
prize for which God has called
me heavenward in Christ
Jesus.“ Phil 3:13-14 (NIV)
Forgetting
what is
behind is
easier said
than done
God would not allow any commandment to
stand in Scripture if it was not possible to
fulfill it
6 steps to help
the process
1. Forgiveness
comes before
forgetting. It is a
choice to be
made
2. You may
need
deliverance
from demonic
strongholds
first
3. The battlefield will always be the mind.
2 Cor 10:5 - we can take thoughts
captive
4. Reminded of
the sins of
others towards
you - you have
forgiven them
5. Reminded of your past sins - God has
forgiven you and forgotten them
6. Replace the ungodly thoughts with
godly thoughts and Scripture
Phil 4:8 (NIV) – "whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is right, whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable—if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy—think about such things"
