This document discusses how a media product represents social groups through its characters. It analyzes stills from films to inspire the design of characters in its own horror film about a group of college students. The main character, Taylor, is portrayed as fashionable and the focus of attention. His friend Sam acts as his follower and seeks to gain status by bullying weaker students. The film aims to appeal to teenage and young adult audiences who will relate to the characters' lives as students and their activities like house parties.
The group's original production plan included four members but one left, requiring changes. They decided on a horror genre and storyline inspired by a member's experience. Research was done into horror conventions and successful elements. The storyboard went through revisions to improve the ending. Casting and costumes were considered to match characters. Sound, camera techniques, and typeface were researched to enhance the title sequence. A production schedule was created to shoot over two days.
The document discusses techniques used in horror filmmaking. It begins by explaining how horror films often start with characters behaving oddly to hint at impending danger. It then discusses the use of shots like close-ups and handheld camera shots to create tension. Common character archetypes in horror like the victim, hero and evil character are also outlined. The document also examines elements of mise-en-scene like settings, costumes, lighting and their role in establishing mood and conveying information to the audience.
The document provides commentary on the shots and scenes from a short horror film titled "Last Man Standing". It describes:
1) The opening scene which was filmed in low light to set a mysterious and spooky tone and immerse the audience without using titles.
2) The main character is introduced in the midst of a nightmare to portray him as mentally disturbed and vulnerable to gain audience sympathy.
3) Later scenes show the character trying to live normally but alone, raising questions about what drove him to isolation.
4) The character cautiously explores an abandoned building where the source of his isolation may be discovered, though he remains isolated at the end.
Representation of women in the cabin in the woods Sable Jerman
The document discusses the representation of women in the film The Cabin in the Woods. It analyzes the female characters Dana and Jules based on theories of the "final girl" and the "male gaze." Dana fits the profile of the "final girl" as she survives until the end and fights back against threats. Jules exemplifies the "male gaze" through camera shots that sexualize her and her transformation into a stereotypical "dumb blonde" character. The film uses these theories to create contrasting representations of femininity and analyze gender roles in horror films.
This document discusses the codes and conventions commonly found in horror films. It outlines several examples of popular horror subgenres and the fears they aim to invoke, such as nightmares, vulnerability, and death. Character archetypes are described, with the final girl often surviving and villains having distinguishing murder methods. Unwritten rules are listed, like certain actions guaranteeing a character's death. Locations and weapons typically featured are also provided.
In thrillers, women are typically portrayed as innocent and vulnerable victims for the hero to rescue. However, some directors challenge this convention by making the female character the hero who rescues the vulnerable male character. These female heroes are often portrayed as highly trained, skilled fighters who are detached from emotions and take risks. For example, in Tomb Raider, Lara Croft is muscular, skilled in weapons, and performs dangerous stunts while remaining emotionless. This portrayal subverts the typical damsel in distress role for women in the genre.
How does your media product represent particular socialLouise_Davs
The document discusses how the media product represents certain social groups. Specifically:
- It uses a blonde female as the main victim, following the horror genre convention of the "stupid" blonde girl stereotype who walks into danger. However, it subverts expectations by having her seemingly escape the killer only to be killed later via a jump scare.
- It avoids the stereotype of having a normal male lead that survives, instead keeping the group small. But it follows the convention of someone going off alone to increase tension.
- It uses a teenage actress for the victim, as teenagers are seen as troublemakers who go where they shouldn't, making the victim's actions seem deliberate and relatable to teenage audiences
The document discusses conventions used in horror film trailers and how the student's trailer subverts some of these conventions. Their trailer features a female killer, Beatrice, as the protagonist instead of the typical male villain. It is also set in a London school rather than an American school and does not include typical stock characters. While some horror film trailer conventions like tense music are followed, the narrative structure is less direct than usual to build curiosity without revealing the ending.

The main musical instruments used in this famous theme are trombones, trumpets, saxophones, and bass guitar. The document discusses different audio storage and recording formats:
- A CD stores digital audio data and was developed for sound recordings, similar to DVDs which offer higher storage capacity.
- Cassette tapes store audio recordings magnetically and come as either pre-recorded or blank for recording.
- Mini discs were an obsolete optical disc format for 74 or 80 minutes of audio or 1GB of data.
- Hard disk drives store and retrieve digital data using rapidly rotating discs coated with magnetic material and allow random access to individual data blocks.

When recording sound electronically, there will likely be noise, analogue distortion, and digital distortion present. Recordings can be mono (using one microphone or speaker) or stereo (using multiple microphones or speakers). Sound is recorded digitally using file formats like .mp3, .wav, etc. Analogue sound provides stronger signals but digital sound offers more reliability and flexibility when connecting to other digital devices or media. Interactive media like CDs, DVDs, television, and mobile phones use sound recordings for entertainment purposes and to convey emotions or provide alerts and notifications.
This document discusses the development of a questionnaire for a heating and plumbing company. It asks questions about who was contacted, how they were contacted, who replied, and what happened next. It also asks about the purpose of the questionnaire and how it was developed, including what software was used. Learning experiences from developing the questionnaire included learning Photoshop, the importance of meeting deadlines, time management, and working independently.
Print screens are images of what is displayed on a computer screen. They provide a snapshot of the current state of an application under development. Taking regular print screens allows developers to track progress, identify issues, and ensure features are developing as intended over the course of building out an application or software program.

We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. 3. Blurb This five minute sequence is a dark dull and dramatic film. Reality school girl
situations taken to the extreme. Full of Intense and moving moments we can all
relate to.
Character biographies Main character, charlotte will be playing ‘Kayla’
Kayla is like any teenage school girl, very independent and enjoys having people
around her especially the ones she loves the most, her boyfriend.
Charlotte is portraying a 17 year old girl who’s heart gets broken by the one she
thought most of.
Slightly unsociable and over exaggerates every decision she should have to making
the consequences terrifying at risk and daring.
Extra, played by Phele.
Phele plays an extra during this five minute system. He is not an important
character at all. He is categorized as a ‘lad’ and is short tempered when ‘kayla’
bumps into him on purpose. We do not see a lot of him
Storyline Young teenage gets a text in class from her (ex) boyfriend. ‘we’re over’ she over
reacts and leaves the class in hysterics. She’s angry frustrated and heart broken.
She runs away from college grounds and overdoses on drugs. She wakes up hours
later and then decides she wants to kill herself from all the hallucinations. She
jumps off a cliff onto bricks and broken glass.
4. BLURB
It may be hard to admit to someone that you think that you might be bipolar, but it’s even harder to
admit it to yourself. As Kayla receive a break-up text from her boyfriend she spirals out of control
and decides to commit suicide, but will she do it.
CHARACTER BIOGRAPHIES
Kayla was born and raised in the United Kingdom, by a wealthy and loving family, but when she
turned eleven years old things took a turn for the worst, as her father lost his business due to
bankruptcy and illegal scheming he decided to commit suicide, and when her mother decided to stop
him, he ended up kill her, Penny Kayla's older sister) and then himself. From the age of eleven,
Kayla found her life change drastically as she had lost both her parents she loved dearly and forced
to move into an orphanage, where she was bullied and abused by the other children. Kayla attitude
to life started to change as well, she decided that being a good girl was getting her no were, she lost
her faith and changed all of her believe for the worst as she started getting in trouble with the police,
sleeping around and befriending local yobs.
STATEMENT OF INTENT
The main subject of the story is mental illness. I will show this by using only one actor in a
dramatic realisation of her insanity, I think that I am the best person to write this story line
because I am familiar with a person who suffers from the same mental illness, so I know a lot
about it factually and personally.
STORY LINE
In the beginning of the story we see a flashback of a girl Running in a traumatic state, but we have
no idea how she got to that sate, the story then rewinds to her in a classroom receiving a text
message from her boyfriend say 'were over', she becomes unormally upset and over traumatic
(due to her mental condition), she runs to the bathroom, where she attempts to pull herself
together, but ends up in a more emotional state, she then runs into the woods where she commits
suicide twice, once by taking pill and when that fails, she throws herself over the edge or a cliff.
14. Props
This is the prop used as pills Books and pencil cases are carried and used by

19. Over, My Dead Body
Opening Sequence:
POV footage of Kayla’s Journey to college with voice over,
Narration- Kayla
‘Five hours before the end of my life, I had just started the beginning, but I guess that’s the problem with
life, it goes by too fast. And just when it all starts getting moral, it all falls down’.
Shot of Kayla Running in slow motion:
Narration- Kayla
My name is Kayla I am one of the reported 276,000 teenagers who attempt suicide a year, but I am one of
the few who succeeded, and this is my story.
Reminiscing sequence:
Voices playing in Kayla’s mid as she runs
Kayla –
I love you so much Jason, I can never leave you.
Jason-
And I will never give you a reason to.
Jason-
Promise you’ll marry me one day and no else in the world will matter.
Kayla-
I promise with all my heat
Kayla-
You’re the only guy who has ever loved me despite everything about me.
I don’t want to die, I scared, but I guess that was the only way I could do it, though fear. But then again I
could be completely wrong, it might not be fear that killed me, it could have been courage, the kind of
courage that comes from a dangerous place. Jason might be the cause of my death, but I can’t hold it against
him, he should continue to be free and full of live, (sigh) only over my dead body .
