The Serbian wood industry represents an important domestic industry with comparative advantages due to local raw wood materials. In 2014, there were over 4,000 active companies and entrepreneurs in wood processing and furniture production, employing around 22,700 workers. However, the industry is dominated by micro and small enterprises, with only 5% of wood processors and 3% of furniture producers being medium or large. Currently the industry exports mostly low value wood products and furniture, with only 26% of wood processing exports and 31% of furniture exports being high value products in 2015. In order to better utilize resources and competitive advantages, the action plan proposes measures to increase value-added production and exports, improve industry competitiveness, education, and promotion of Serbian wood products
