1. Four Picture Story

W.A.L.T: Write a story around four pictures.
‘Your mission this week is a big one, a journey no other has conquered, a real
quest...’ the cat continued, ‘You must find the one and only, Orange Skeletal
Mushroom. Known for it’s healing powers, fine appearance and slipperiness,
it is up to you to face the world and do what is right. You must bring them
back to me in order to defeat the wicked Evil Hound, our arch enemy.’
A group of superheroes were sitting around a tree stump, commonly known
as their head quarters. It was their job to help their master stop the wicked
Evil Hound from taking over the universe, and every now and then they had
to undertake a new mission.
‘Does everyone understand?’ Master Grey Feline asked, his mischievous
green eyes glistening in the sun.
‘Of course,’ the super heroes answered.
Bill the Budgie swung his most prized spoon around with his vibrant green
feathers flapping uncontrollably. Georgia the Guinea Pig walked around in
circles, ruffling her fur and squeaking happily. Parry the Platypus slapped his
tail on the ground, while Terry the Turtle cowered in the corner, trembling.
‘You’ll be fine, Terry, just stick with others,’ Master Grey Feline gave Terry a
big hug, ‘Now, if you don’t mind my saying so, you four will need to start
your journey. Good luck everyone!’
With that, the four superhero animals made their way through the park, ready
to start their adventure.
After a quick meeting, they decided to go to the one spot where they would
most likely find Orange Skeletal Mushrooms. Skeletal Cove, the namesake of
the Orange Skeletal Mushrooms.
Not far into their journey, they came across a large river, glistening in the sun,
but dangerous despite it’s looks. Luckily, Parry was able to using his enlarging
tail skills to safely get the others across, that is apart from Bill, he flew over
head with his spoon. Terry started trembling at the thought of crossing the
river, but Georgia’s offer of chocolate soon changed his mind.
2. They walked, or flew if you were Bill, but very slowly as Terry’s legs weren’t
all that large and he took quite a while to walk a few mere metres. Despite
Georgia’s encouragements, the group decided it was time to tie Terry’s rocket
boosters onto his back as he way going far too slow. With this sudden surge
of speed, Terry was able to keep up with the group, and they kept a good
pace.
They hadn’t gone much further when darkness started to fall, the sun was
starting to fade, and even though it wasn’t dark quite yet, the animals decided
it was a good idea to start looking for a place to bed down for the night. Parry
spotted a good rock formation to sleep under, but it was nowhere near large
enough for the four animals to sleep in. Georgia found a small hole, but that
wasn’t right either, so they kept walking and walking and walking.
Just as they’re eyelids were starting to droop and they’re stomachs were
starting rumble Bill suddenly let out a ferocious squawk. Knowing something
was wrong, the animals dived into the undergrowth for cover, shaking with
fright. Parry peered through the leaves of a bush he was behind, to just catch
a glimpse of some dogs in a very familiar looking uniform. They were
heading for the Skeletal Cove. Parry then realised something truly terrible. It
was the Evil Hound’s top warriors and they were after the Orange Skeletal
Mushrooms too, he could tell by the way they were acting. Parry quickly
gabbled this to Georgia, who passed it onto Terry, who informed Bill. Keen to
create a diversion, Georgia spat a ball of fire on the path in front of the dogs.
They leapt back, howling, as the big ball of fire came towards them.
Frightened, the ran back the way they came, and didn’t come back.
If the animals had been nearly asleep before, they were now wide awake,
and eager to get moving in case the dogs came back. They congratulated
Georgia on her success, and kept walking.
Soon it was dark, the animals soon found a hollow in a tree. They took their
packs off, snuggled into their sleeping bags and fell fast asleep.
Soon enough, the sun was up, and warm it was. The animals quickly had
some breakfast and continued on their way. They hoped they were going in
3. the right direction, and, when they came to a sign they were extremely
confused. It read:
But it did not say which way to go, so the superheroes couldn’t work out
whether to go left or right.
‘I say when in doubt go right, lets go right!’ said Parry
‘I say when in doubt go left, lets go left!’ answered Georgia
‘You two are both wrong, when in doubt, go straight ahead!’ Bill added.
‘NO!’
‘YES!’
‘NEVER!’
Meanwhile, all of this time the guinea pig, budgie and platypus were arguing,
Terry had shimmered up the back of the sign and he had found something
interesting.
‘Look at this guys, look what I’ve found!!’ he said, proud of his find.
The others came over, and, balanced on Terry’s shell was a yellow scroll. It
read:
You’ve found a sign of no precision,
In which you need to reach a decision,
To fulfill yours dreams and conquer your mission,
You’ll need your ears, nose and vision.
With the scroll at hand, the animals decided to go to straight ahead as that
seemed the most obvious way to go, Bill was very pleased with himself, even
at Georgia and Parry’s annoyance.
4. They were a few metres down the track when they suddenly heard a loud
swaying noise. It sounding a bit like a tree swaying in the gentle breeze. They
though it was perhaps the first sense that was mentioned in the scroll. They
decided to use their noses as that was the next thing written in the scroll. Sure
enough, they smelt a strong, sweet sort of smell, undoubtedly the smell of
pine needles. They followed the smell until they came across something
absolutely amazing, a massive tree.
There were steps leading up the side so they quickly clambered up the side of
the ginormous tree to the very top. The four animals peered across at the
landscape ahead of the them. Lo and behold, they were gazing a plain of
pure sand.
Skeletal Cove was like a barren wasteland. There were hardly any trees, and
the wasteland was mostly sand apart from a large oasis in the middle with a
few trees and bushes surrounding it. There was also a large gnarled tree that
gave the superheroes the shivers. They were all rather hot and tired after their
eventful expedition down the side of the massive pine tree. Bill somehow
managed to wedge his faithful spoon into the side of the tree and Georgia
used her fireball powers to create a large hole at the bottom of the tree in
which everyone filled leaves and pine needles into, making a soft landing for
them to jump into. One by one, the group leapt onto the protruding spoon
and made a giant leap into the hole.
The superheroes didn’t know where to start looking for the Orange Skeletal
Mushrooms, Skeletal Cove seemed to go on for about 100 miles in every
direction.
According to their master, Grey Feline, Orange Skeletal Mushrooms grow in
damp, moist places.
The group spread out to look along the perimeter of the oasis, taking care to
look in the most hidden, mysterious places. They looked for the entire rest of
the day, only stopping to stare time and time again at the beautiful oasis. Just
when they were starting to give up, Terry spotted something on the side of a
vaporous, moist laden tree. After further inspection, the animals decided they
had indeed found the Orange Skeletal Mushrooms.
5. On the journey back home, all the animals thought about how happy they
were to be heading home. They were all very pleased to say that they would
be able to help their master to defeat their evil enemy.
Once they arrived back at their headquarters, Master Grey Feline was very
pleased to see them, he thanked them and gave them all special medals. Just
as the superheroes were heading off to go home, Master Grey Feline had one
more thing to say.
‘Oh, and just before you guys go, my wonderful friends, I have one last
mission. You must find the Blue Skeletal Mushrooms. I need the stalks of both
Blue and Orange Skeletal Mushrooms, I have just recently learnt this, so sorry
for the late notice! Your mission will start in exactly two minutes. Have fun!’...
