What is it?
The present simple
tense is used to describe an
action that is regular, true or
normal

We use Present Simple
• for repeated or regular actions in the
present time period
I go to school every day
• for facts
Cows eat grass.

We use Present Simple
• for habits
I have cornflakes for breakfast.
• for things that are always/generally true
They speak English at home.

How to form Present Simple
Use the base form of the infinitive
(without to) with I / You / We/ They
I visit my granny at weekends.
You work as a shop assistant.
We live in a small town.
They often have chicken for dinner.

How to form Present Simple
With “he / she / it” add “s / es” to the end
of the verb
He visits his granny at weekends.
She lives in a small town.
It often rains in England.

SPELLING
For verbs that end in –o, -sh, -ch, -ss,
-x, -z we add –es
go –

fix –

For the verbs that end in a consonant + y,
we remove y and add –ies
