2nd Annual South Side Housing Expo
Helping South Side Homeowners and Renters Rebuild Their Communities
Chicago, Illinois, July 10, 2015 — Revitalizing the Housing Market in distressed communities on
Chicago’s South Side is part of a new initiative launched by RE/MAX® brokers LaShawn Brown and
Warren Davis, through their non-for-profit organization, The Village Network.
The organization founders announces that its 2nd Annual “South Side Housing Expo” will take place
on July 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at South Shore International College Prep High School, 1955
E. 75th Street, and is free to the public. Alderman Michelle A. Harris, 8th
Ward and Alderman Greg I.
Mitchell, 7th
Ward will also be joining the South Side Expo as special guest attendees.
The Expo is an opportunity for residents to speak with experts about home financing options and
attend workshops and a resource fair with over 70 vendors, including the Neighbor Housing Service
of Chicago, Illinois Housing Development Authority and the Chicago Urban League.
The husband and wife team, who grew up on the South Side of Chicago are on a mission to not only
help South Side homeowners improve their property value and credit ratings, but to help provide
affordable options to renters who also want to become homeowners. “Access to good information is
the key to revitalizing many distressed neighborhoods across the city”, said Davis. An informed
community, aware of viable options will suffer fewer foreclosures and can influence change through
improved housing conditions and economic development, he added.
Down payment and credit challenges are the most common factors that keep people from achieving
their home ownership dream. The South Side Expo aims to provide solutions for home ownership,
including credit counseling, down payment assistance, student loan assistance, and much more to
help remove obstacles and revitalize distressed neighborhoods on the south side.
Many homeowners are currently upside-down on their mortgage (owing more than the property is
worth). The South Side Expo will show participants how to increase their property value and save
thousands of dollars on their monthly mortgage payment, and escape the “upside-down” rut.
“We want to empower people to know there are viable options for them to achieve their home
ownership goals,” said Davis. “We want to create a pool of potential buyers who are pre-qualified to
purchase a home, and we want to help homeowners who may be underwater on their mortgage right
now--find a way to tap the equity that a strategic remodeling can unlock,” he added.
