SILENT AUCTION: Training school is funded by, among other things, a silent auction concluding on Sunday
afternoon 15 minutes before lunch is over. We request that all clubs bring article(s) for this auction so that we can
continue this event in the years to come. Any items for the silent auction may be dropped off at the office any
time before noon on Saturday. There will also be a tack sale that is run in conjunction with the silent auction.
Training school will keep 10% of the proceeds from items sold.
ENTRANT: Members must be enrolled in Horsemanship in Action Project. 4-H GROUND RULES WILL BE
ENFORCED. Copies of rules are available upon request at the Yakima County Courthouse and in the Training
School Office. To enroll in the Training School, a 4-H member must fill out the attached entry form completely.
State Rule state that the rider must be 8 years old or in 3rd grade on January 1st
, 2015.
COSTS: The registration fee is one hundred five dollars ($105) for the first horse and rider and seventy five
dollars ($75) for each additional horse and rider from a family (includes adult). Observers are welcome and free.
One horse per rider only.
ENTRY: The completed entry form with entry fee must be turned into to your club leader for review and
must be signed by your club leader in order for the entry to be processed. The entry will not be accepted

without the leader’s signature. Any entries received after June will be placed on a waiting list as there is an entry
limit of about 100. The first bale of straw bedding for each horse will be provided and extra straw will be sold on
location. Storage stalls will be given from any unused stalls available. One storage stall per club of 5 or less,
additional storage stalls will be $10 each. Please note that payment must be received with the entry and that no
phone-in entries can be accepted.
REFUND: Refunds will be processed by written request until the stall is used. Any refunds requested before June
18, 2015 will have a $5 filing fee deducted and any request for refunds after this date will be denied unless
petitioned in front of the Yakima County Horse Council. Refunds will be mailed two weeks after the end of
Training School. Packets will be available at the main office after 4:00 PM Thursday, June 25th. A parent or
responsible adult must always be on duty in each barn. This duty can be shared by groups within the barn.
HAUL-IN:
• Thursday is haul-in day from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
• All horses must always have a person on the grounds in charge of them. Horses cannot be left un-
attended if they are not in their stall.
• All stalls that are in use must have stall cards on them; they are available in the office and free so
USE THEM!
• Horses are not allowed on the grass unless in a class.
• Haul-in will be through Gate 11 by YV-Tech off 18th
Street
• Horse trailer parking will be in the In-Field. Trailers parked elsewhere may be towed without notice if
they are in the way.
• The In-Field can be accessed behind the barns and through the Tunnel under the Race Track.
• Please get unloaded and move your trailers as quickly as possible so that you don’t create a traffic
jam. Also, STAY OUT OF THE FIRE LANES (look for the signs) ESPECIALLY BETWEEN
BARN C AND D.
CAMPING:
• Camping is provided by the fairgrounds for the event participants, volunteers, trainers and their
immediate families ONLY.
• Both because this is a 4-H event and because of the rules laid down by the fairgrounds, no alcohol is
allowed. Any campers or their guests who are found with alcohol or under the influence of alcohol will
be asked to leave immediately along with the event participants and no refunds will be given.
• All camp sites must have an adult present.
• Members camping may leave with parental guidance only and must be back on the grounds by 10:00 PM
• All fairground gates close at 10:00 PM and re-open at 6:00 AM.
• Campsites can be rented from the State Fair Park. The campground fees are separate from your Training
School entry fees and no part of the camping fees goes to support Training School.
• Campsite fees will be collected by the State Fair Park Representatives. For current fees call (509) 248-
7160. Mention that you are with the event.
• Don’t try to camp in areas that aren’t meant for camping. You will have to move. Ask event management
if you have any questions.
TACK CHECK: After unloading but before 9:00 P.M., all attending horses/riders (adults too) must be presented
for a safety tack check that will include mounting the horse, so riding attire and equipment must be worn.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance will not be taken at the classes - this is like college, you can’t learn if you don’t
show up. Class changes will be announced about 10-15 minutes before each class. This is a classroom
environment, there is no individual one on one instruction.
HERDSMANSHIP: Mucking out, feeding, watering, sweeping and all that other fun stuff will be performed for
the benefit of animals and experience of participants. An evaluator will keep all apprised of their progress as
they are performing their duties, just like at the fairs. This will be done at random whenever we want so keep
them clean during the day. All stalls that are in use must have stall cards on them, they are available in the

office and free so USE THEM! If you prefer to use shavings, you must provide your own bedding and be
respectful of the requirement to haul it out separately from straw. Storage stalls will be given from any unused
stalls available. One storage stall per club/individuals up to 5 horses, additional storage stalls will be $10 each.
ATTIRE: Keep your show clothes at home. Long pants or breeches, boots with a heel and a comfortable shirt are
the order of the day. No bikini tops, tube tops, belly shirts and/or shorts (or capris) will be worn when working
with or around horses. Boots meant for riding must be worn whenever you’re around the horses. NO OPEN
TOED SHOES IN THE BARN AREA FOR ANYONE.
All youth riders are required by state 4-H rules to wear an approved (ASTM
and SEI) safety helmet in any mounted instances.
HORSES: These are the ground rules: No riding in a halter. No trading horses. No riding double. Ride only in an
arena. If it appears to be unsafe – don’t do it. If a horse is determined by the trainers to be a hazard for any reason
the participant will be asked to leave. Per an injured animal, a new horse can be substituted. One last thing, only
participants or the event trainers are to ride the horses.
ADVANCED CLASSES: Sunday starting at about 4:00 the arena(s) will be opened for advanced classes to last
about 1 to 1 ½ hours. The cost will be $10 per rider at the gate and this money goes directly to the trainers, please
do not include this with your entry fee. Classes will be divided among qualified trainers depending upon interest.
A sign up sheet will be posted. Let us know what kind of classes you might be interested in. Adults are welcome
to share riding with the youth in these classes.
HAUL OUT: Please clean your stalls. Clubs who do not leave ALL the stalls, including the tack rooms that are
assigned to them clean will be assessed a $25 cleaning fee per dirty stall payable to Training School and the
participants or anyone else from the club will not be able to come back until this fee is paid. Please see a member
of the Training School staff to get your stall card signed showing you really did clean your stall.
HORSELESS HORSE: Cost is $15. Classes on Saturday and Sunday only but you are welcome to come on
Friday and watch classes and join us for the potluck. Young members who need supervision will need an adult
family member with them at all times.
COULDN’T FIGURE WHERE ELSE IT GOES: Skateboards, skates, bicycles, etc, are allowed in the
camping area only. We will be happy to store skateboards, skates and bicycles in the office until Sunday
afternoon if this rule is ignored. No horses in the camping area. No water fights in the barns or in the
bathrooms. When parking remember that if you park where horses are liable to walk they can put a nasty dent in
a quarter panel. If your horse becomes unusable, you may swap out for another at any time, just let the office
know. When paying, make the Check or Money Order out to 4-H Training School. Again, we do not collect the
money for camping and the optional activities on Sunday are paid to the trainers at the gate.
LEADERS: After the youth members have turned their entry forms to you, please send them to:

CAMPING: • Camping is provided by the fairgrounds for the event participants, volunteers, trainers and their immediate families ONLY. • Both because this is a 4-H event and because of the rules laid down by the fairgrounds, no alcohol is allowed. Any campers or their guests who are found with alcohol or under the influence of alcohol will be asked to leave immediately along with the event participants and no refunds will be given. • All camp sites must have an adult present. • Members camping may leave with parental guidance only and must be back on the grounds by 10:00 PM • All fairground gates close at 10:00 PM and re-open at 6:00 AM. • Campsites can be rented from the State Fair Park. The campground fees are separate from your Training School entry fees and no part of the camping fees goes to support Training School. • Campsite fees will be collected by the State Fair Park Representatives. For current fees call (509) 248- 7160. Mention that you are with the event. • Don’t try to camp in areas that aren’t meant for camping. You will have to move. Ask event management if you have any questions. TACK CHECK: After unloading but before 9:00 P.M., all attending horses/riders (adults too) must be presented for a safety tack check that will include mounting the horse, so riding attire and equipment must be worn. ATTENDANCE: Attendance will not be taken at the classes - this is like college, you can’t learn if you don’t show up. Class changes will be announced about 10-15 minutes before each class. This is a classroom environment, there is no individual one on one instruction. HERDSMANSHIP: Mucking out, feeding, watering, sweeping and all that other fun stuff will be performed for the benefit of animals and experience of participants. An evaluator will keep all apprised of their progress as they are performing their duties, just like at the fairs. This will be done at random whenever we want so keep them clean during the day. All stalls that are in use must have stall cards on them, they are available in the Page 2 4-H does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, religion, sex, national origin, or physical limitation.

Storage stalls will be given from any unused stalls available. One storage stall per club/individuals up to 5 horses, additional storage stalls will be $10 each. ATTIRE: Keep your show clothes at home. Long pants or breeches, boots with a heel and a comfortable shirt are the order of the day. No bikini tops, tube tops, belly shirts and/or shorts (or capris) will be worn when working with or around horses. Boots meant for riding must be worn whenever you’re around the horses. NO OPEN TOED SHOES IN THE BARN AREA FOR ANYONE. All youth riders are required by state 4-H rules to wear an approved (ASTM and SEI) safety helmet in any mounted instances. HORSES: These are the ground rules: No riding in a halter. No trading horses. No riding double. Ride only in an arena. If it appears to be unsafe – don’t do it. If a horse is determined by the trainers to be a hazard for any reason the participant will be asked to leave. Per an injured animal, a new horse can be substituted. One last thing, only participants or the event trainers are to ride the horses. ADVANCED CLASSES: Sunday starting at about 4:00 the arena(s) will be opened for advanced classes to last about 1 to 1 ½ hours. The cost will be $10 per rider at the gate and this money goes directly to the trainers, please do not include this with your entry fee. Classes will be divided among qualified trainers depending upon interest. A sign up sheet will be posted. Let us know what kind of classes you might be interested in. Adults are welcome to share riding with the youth in these classes. HAUL OUT: Please clean your stalls. Clubs who do not leave ALL the stalls, including the tack rooms that are assigned to them clean will be assessed a $25 cleaning fee per dirty stall payable to Training School and the participants or anyone else from the club will not be able to come back until this fee is paid. Please see a member of the Training School staff to get your stall card signed showing you really did clean your stall. HORSELESS HORSE: Cost is $15. Classes on Saturday and Sunday only but you are welcome to come on Friday and watch classes and join us for the potluck. Young members who need supervision will need an adult family member with them at all times. COULDN’T FIGURE WHERE ELSE IT GOES: Skateboards, skates, bicycles, etc, are allowed in the camping area only. We will be happy to store skateboards, skates and bicycles in the office until Sunday afternoon if this rule is ignored. No horses in the camping area. No water fights in the barns or in the bathrooms. When parking remember that if you park where horses are liable to walk they can put a nasty dent in a quarter panel. If your horse becomes unusable, you may swap out for another at any time, just let the office know. When paying, make the Check or Money Order out to 4-H Training School. Again, we do not collect the money for camping and the optional activities on Sunday are paid to the trainers at the gate.
