2. TSRHC — MAKING DREAMS POSSIBLE
Children’s dreams are as unique as the children
who imagine them — they come in all shapes
and sizes. In this year’s calendar, you will be
introduced to patients who are already living
their dreams. Some of these aspirations
put them in the spotlight, such as acting or
competing in gymnastics. For other patients,
acquiring the ability to walk, run and play is a
dream fulfilled.
Since 1921, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for
Children (TSRHC) has been making all kinds
of dreams possible for children. The hospital’s
physicians and researchers set the standard
in developing the most effective treatment
methods, delivering the best outcomes and
discovering the root causes of the conditions
treated through TSRHC’s five centers
for excellence.
Making dreams possible for our patients is at the
heart of everything we do. Because at TSRHC,
our physicians, researchers and caring staff
understand the difference between living and
living your dreams.
“I want to help the hospital that helped me.
This hospital has given me the ability to
walk and do things I was never able to do
before. I want to help because I love being
around people who care about you.”
TSRHC patient Erika, age 15, of Wylie
“I’ve participated in numerous hospital
research studies and to me, that’s one
of the reasons why I think God gave me
scoliosis — so I could help other people
know why they have scoliosis.”
TSRHC patient Emily, age 12, of Midland
“Texas Scottish Rite gave me the
physical and mental confidence I
needed to pursue my love for acting.”
TSRHC patient Chase,
age 17, of San Antonio
3. The completely renovated TSRHC Atrium
was unveiled in 2013 and met with rave
reviews. The same bright colors and swirling
terrazzo tile floors that greet visitors at
the hospital’s main entrance have been
extended to the Atrium, where patients
and families are welcomed.
The most prominent feature
of the space is the hospital’s
new Registration Desk. Other
amenities include an updated
Popcorn Desk and the new
TSRHC Gift Shop, which
opened in the spring.
A special thanks goes to the
TSRHC Auxiliary for their
generous donation to the project. Other
significant contributors include the CH
Foundation and the 2013 Knox-Corinthian
Lodge, Tartan and West Texas Golf Classics.
TSRHC is grateful to all those who helped
make the creation of the new bright and
beautiful Atrium possible.

Crystal Charity Ball Names TSRHC
a Beneficiary
The Crystal Charity Ball chose
TSRHC as one of eight beneficiaries
of the 2013 Crystal Charity Ball.
The Dallas-based organization is
dedicated to ensuring that every
child has the opportunity to become
a healthy and educated member of
the community. The organization
generously committed $500,000
to the hospital, which will be used to
underwrite the cost of specialized
prosthetics care for TSRHC
patients. Since its inception in 1952,
the Crystal Charity Ball has raised
more than $110 million for children’s
charities in Dallas County.
TSRHC is honored to be
the primary beneficiary
of the MetroPCS®
Dallas
Marathon®
. In 2012
a new running course
was introduced, which
passes directly in front
of the hospital. TSRHC
patients, patient families
and hospital friends gathered at the hospital to cheer on marathon participants.
To date, the marathon has raised more than $3.3 million for TSRHC.
Be part of the excitement and support the hospital at the 44th running of the
marathon on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Visit www.dallasmarathon.com for registration
and event details, including updates on the 2014 marathon.
The 18th annual Treasure Street, the hospital’s signature fundraising
event, took place Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. Our great state of Texas
was honored this year with highlights from every region, including
Texas cuisine, customs and history. More than 1,000 guests
celebrated under the stars while honoring the brightest star
in the state — TSRHC!
Our thanks go to 2013 Treasure Street Chairmen Rep. Dan Branch
and his wife, Stacey Branch.
This year’s successful event
raised more than $1.1 million
for TSRHC.
The event chairmen for
2014 Treasure Street are
Rick and Lori Ashmore
Peters. Please plan to
join us next October for
another fun celebration.

7. Becoming a Patient
There are four criteria for becoming a patient
at TSRHC:
• The child should be referred by a physician for
treatment of an orthopaedic condition, certain
related neurological disorder or learning
disorder, such as dyslexia.
• The child should be a Texas resident.
• The child should be from birth up to 18 years
of age. Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and
Learning Disorders patients must be between
the ages of 5 and 14 years.
• The child’s condition should offer hope of
improvement through the services provided by
the hospital.
To refer a patient or obtain a patient referral
information form, please contact our Patient
Access department at (214) 559-7477 or
(800) 421-1121, ext. 7477, or visit www.tsrhc.org.
Becoming a Volunteer
Volunteers help make TSRHC a special place for
patients and families and are an integral part of the
hospital’s daily activities. Though our volunteers have
diverse backgrounds, they are united in the desire to
contribute their time and talents to our children and
their families.
For more information about becoming a volunteer
or to receive a volunteer application, please call
TSRHC’s Volunteer Services department at
(214) 559-7825 or (800) 421-1121, ext. 7825,

Our Masonic Roots
TSRHC was founded in 1921 by a group of Texas
Masons and Dallas’ first orthopaedic surgeon,
Dr. W. B. Carrell. Today, the hospital is governed by
a board of trustees whose members belong to the
Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Masons throughout
the state of Texas continue to support the hospital
with their personal time and individual contributions.

For more than 90 years, we’ve dedicated
ourselves to providing quality care for kids,
empowering them to achieve more than they
ever dreamed possible. But truly exceptional
care is more than diagnosis and treatment, it
is addressing all of a patient’s needs, and then
some. From specialized prosthetics that allow
kids to pursue unique, individual interests to
recreational therapy programs like Learn to
Golf, our ultimate goal is to improve each
child’s physical condition. At the same time, we
provide the experiences and encouragement
needed to become a successful, confident,
capable adult. We go above and beyond for
children, regardless of insurance coverage
or ability to pay.
The support of organizations, foundations,
corporations and individuals just like you makes
all the difference for our patients. Whether
you select a specific
area of patient
care or designate
your gift to general
operating expenses,
your generosity
allows us to continue
our mission and
helps make dreams
possible for our
patients.
Use the donor envelope included with this
publication, or contact our Development staff
directly at (214) 559-8374 or (800) 421-1121,

a child a chance to shine. For further details
