Long Way Home is a nonprofit organization that constructs self-sufficient schools in Guatemala using sustainable materials like recycled tires and bottles to promote education, employment, and environmental stewardship. The schools are built in the department of Chimaltenango in Guatemala, which has a largely indigenous population living in poverty. Long Way Home has built two schools so far, Técnico Chixot and TireHomes&Walls, employing local laborers and using over 300 tons of recycled materials to construct buildings and educate hundreds of students.
