Use Case - Lafayette collège
Access and share sensitive data from any device
« We wanted to add a
modern interface to our
private file shares that
supported web browsers
and mobile devices.
Pydio met our goal and was
easy to modify to fit our
infrastructure »
Founded in 1826, it is located in Easton, Pa., 70 miles
from New York City and 60 miles from Philadelphia.
Firmly established among the
nation’s most academically
competitive and selective liberal
arts colleges, Lafayette offers the
rare combination of the liberal
arts and engineering to an
exclusively undergraduate student
body of 2,400.

Network and Systems

Applications Specialist
Access and share sensitive
data from any device
No private data on public clouds
Not all data is appropriate for storage in a public cloud because of privacy and
legal concerns.
Lafayette College keeps its sensitive data, as per its Data Stewardship Policy, out of
the public cloud. IT delivers instead storage services in its private data centers.
Seeking for web and mobile file sharing
Internal file shares have been keeping Lafayette College's internal data safe for
years. Based on Samba, storage services can be accessed from traditional fat
clients.
But the college needed to provide students, faculty and staff with a more modern
web interface to that data as well as a way to access that data through mobile
devices.
Pydio was chosen to provide web browser, smartphones and tablet interfaces to
Lafayette College internal data in a way that keeps pace with modern public cloud
interfaces while keeping the data internal.
Pydio: simplicity and migration free
Thanks to Pydio existing file shares have been connected, and made accessible
from web and mobile thin clients.
Pydio's Samba driver allowed all of Lafayette College permissions information
associated with Samba shares to be preserved so that piece of infrastructure
does not need to be migrated. Instead, Pydio was added on top of that
infrastructure for an easy path to a modern private cloud.
Lafayette branding and specifics
Lafayette College developers were rapidly able to build connectivity plug-ins
and to optimize the file sharing system performance.
Computer and mobile workspaces are part of the College experience, and
Pydio was rebranded to reflect Lafayette College brand and visual identify.
