Fellow Members,
It has been a very busy and productive month for ISA
New Orleans Section. Many of the main initiatives that
were planned early in the year have finally come to frui-
tion. Some of these include widening out on the member-
ship drive, getting the student section revitalized, and
filling more of the Board positions.
We have widened out on membership by not only
sending out reminders for renewal to suspended mem-
bers, but also by starting a potential members group.
While existing members may need some encouragement
and reminders of the benefits of membership, others are
timid about joining. So, in coming across potential mem-
bers recently, I have put together a list to send out infor-
mation. If you think you know of someone who has been
or may benefit from being a member, why not say some-
thing and/or forward their e-mail address to the Member-
ship Chair. We give them the option to “unsubscribe” if
they are not interested, but none have taken up the offer.
Yet, it is not just to the traditional folks, such as elec-
trical engineers and technicians in the instrument and
controls fields to whom we are widening out to. There are
others in the world of automation, such as the movie,
software and digital, environmental, energy, biosciences
and environmental industries. By widening out to include
individuals in these fields in the ongoing membership
drive, we can begin to include a wider slice of the auto-
mation sector. If you have another group(s) that you think
should be included in the drive, feel free to present this
information to the Membership Chair or the President.
One of the other initiatives has been in aiding the UNO
student section to get back on their feet. Very good pro-
gress has been made in the past few months. The Student
Section Liaison Chair and I were able to meet with a cou-
ple of leading students in February to discuss strategy
going forward and recruitment ideas. More recently, the
Co-Chair of the Student Section Liaison, David William-
son, and I met with the Associate Dean of Academic and
Student Affairs for the College of Engineering. We pre-
sented a check for $400 to support one of four senior pro-
ject teams which the board members approved. It is a
great way to get the ISA name in front of UNO students
and to promote membership and participation at the UNO
student section level and for future regular membership.

Turbo/Pump Symposia, 1–3 Oct. 2013, George R.
Brown Convention Center, Houston, Tx. At the ChemIn-
ovations show, the Texas A&M Turbomachinery Lab
approached Bill with helping to promote the event. They
offered to give N.O. Section a table at the Symposia. The
Section declined as it would be better suited for an ISA
Section in Houston. The Board agreed to list the event on
the Section’s web site. Also, the Board agreed to post
event advertisements in the May and August newsletter
editions.
Report of Officers and Committees
President’s Report
The President requested an update from the Nominat-
ing Committee (Mike Williamson, Mike Benbow, Beth
Walker and Ram Ramachandran) on next year’s officers
and to assist with any nominations for the society posi-
tions available.
Mike Williamson reported that there is at least one can-
didate running for each position for VP. Ram recom-
mended that a vote be held by e-mail and requested that it
be sent out by March 15. Results will be announced in
the May newsletter.
The President suggested that a letter be drafted commu-
nicating events in the local area with the local Section to
ensure that promotional activities are not missed and at-
tendance negatively affected. He indicated he would get
assistance on how to best position the request from Ram
Ramachandran.
President Elect Report
Dean Bickerton reported that he is making progress on
a possible Automation Fair or ISA Leaders Conference to
be held in New Orleans in the future. As of now there is
no Automation Fair or ISA Leaders Conference being
held in New Orleans. Dean will prepare a report on the
conference/automation fair.
A table top meeting will not be held.
Dean is working on the skeet shooting venues or
NOLA motor sports park. He suggested that we try to get
the UNO Student involved

Call to Order
The ISA New Orleans Section President Bill Brock
called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
Introduction of Attendees
Secretary notified the Board that a quorum was not pre-
sent. Note that as the meeting progressed additional
members arrived and a quorum was reached, but no votes
were taken.
Safety Topic
Spring Cleaning: Use ladders safely. Wear appropriate
protective gear such as gloves, eye protection, and proper
shoes. Watch out for wasps that may have found a home
during the winter.
Review & Approve Agenda
Distributed the Board meeting agenda and asked if
there are any requests for revisions to the agenda. No re-
visions were identified.
Review & Approve Minutes of Last Meeting
As there was not a quorum present, Bill will distribute
a copy of the February 5, 2013, Board meeting minutes
for review and approval.
Review of Communications from the Society
• District VII will host a Leadership Conference on
19–20 April 2013 at the Hilton Galveston Island Re-
sort. Section Leaders completing their terms of office
will be introduced and recognized. Bill inquired as to
whether the New Orleans Section should send repre-
sentatives.
Chris proposed that a budget be prepared outlining
conference costs; Mike Williamson discussed the
benefits of Section exposure and leadership training;
Ram and others discussed what had happened in the
past with this conference. An e-mail vote will be held
at the board level with submission of a budget.
• The Society informed all Sections that sections must
file an annual return with the IRS.
Chris noted that he is aware of the rule and that the
New Orleans Section files this in October.
• The 13th
ISA Annual Fugitive Emissions and LDAR
Symposium is scheduled for 21–23 May 2013 in
New Orleans, La., USA.

Treasurer Report
Chris Bruno requested that itemized receipts be saved
for purchases as it is proper documentation to have. If
anyone is in possession of receipts, please give them to
Chris.
Chris also requested a heads-up before a transaction is
made so that he does not get surprised by charges show-
ing up that are not expected.
Chris requested that the MOP be reviewed/revisited as
it is not explicit at all as to the rules regarding the Presi-
dent and Vice President being issued debit cards. Note
that the Vice President has not been issued a debit card.
There was much discussion about this and as time was
running out it will be added to future review/discussions.
Education Chair
Bob Deeb reported out that the ISA Seminar had 22
enrolled on the first day and 20 enrolled on the second

The Dean also is planning to promote the ISA organiza-
tion with the mechanical engineer students as well. This
is very good, especially since a good number of mechani-
cal engineers end up in the automation field too.
Lastly, for most of the term, we have filled all but one
seat on the board and have a couple of Co-Chairs. And,
for the first time in more than five years, we have two
candidates for the office of Vice President. We look for-
ward to their joining the Board either as Vice President or
in another position on the board.
A lot of progress has been made and we look forward
to the positive changes that are yet to come. Now, it is
time for the current Vice President and I to go to the Dis-
trict Leaders Conference.
Your President,
Bill Brock

ISA's LDAR Symposium will provide an outstanding
opportunity to gain valuable face-to-face technical infor-
mation by leading governmental regulators and leading
industry experts.
By participating in the ISA Leak Detection and Repair
(LDAR) Technical Interest Group, LDAR professionals
obtain the valuable insights from experts and enjoy the
ongoing interaction with colleagues they need to stay
informed on all key movements and issues within the air
compliance industry.
Group participants gain:
• Updates from government officials to help stay
compliant with regulations, and receive vital in-
put from technical experts that support the con-
tinual improvement of their LDAR programs.
• Direct interaction with representatives of regula-
tory agencies and varied networking opportuni-
ties with colleagues to learn, share best practices,
and get a glimpse of what’s on the horizon to
shape the future of the LDAR and Directed In-
spection and Maintenance (DI&M) marketplace.
• Connections with experts representing various
aspects of LDAR compliance and who are in
positions tasked with reducing air emissions.
These experts include environmental engineers,
air compliance specialists, environmental man-
agers, LDAR program administrators, LDAR
coordinators and supervisors, monitoring ser-
vices contractors, and vendors who provide
products and services to the LDAR and fugitive
emissions community.
• •Multiple opportunities to take part in (i.e., pre-
sent and review papers, investigate new LDAR
products and services, etc.) ISA’s LDAR Fugi-
tive-Emissions Symposium, which typically oc-
curs in May of each year. The symposium pro-
vides an open exchange between regulators and
regulated entities, and is the ideal venue to meet
and establish a dialogue with the environmental
industry’s leading LDAR professionals.■

Deadline Materials must be submitted by the 10th day of the month preceeding the issue in which it should appear. May 2013 The Current Pneusletter Page 2 Fellow Members, It has been a very busy and productive month for ISA New Orleans Section. Many of the main initiatives that were planned early in the year have finally come to frui- tion. Some of these include widening out on the member- ship drive, getting the student section revitalized, and filling more of the Board positions. We have widened out on membership by not only sending out reminders for renewal to suspended mem- bers, but also by starting a potential members group. While existing members may need some encouragement and reminders of the benefits of membership, others are timid about joining. So, in coming across potential mem- bers recently, I have put together a list to send out infor- mation. If you think you know of someone who has been or may benefit from being a member, why not say some- thing and/or forward their e-mail address to the Member- ship Chair. We give them the option to “unsubscribe” if they are not interested, but none have taken up the offer. Yet, it is not just to the traditional folks, such as elec- trical engineers and technicians in the instrument and controls fields to whom we are widening out to. There are others in the world of automation, such as the movie, software and digital, environmental, energy, biosciences and environmental industries. By widening out to include individuals in these fields in the ongoing membership drive, we can begin to include a wider slice of the auto- mation sector. If you have another group(s) that you think should be included in the drive, feel free to present this information to the Membership Chair or the President. One of the other initiatives has been in aiding the UNO student section to get back on their feet. Very good pro- gress has been made in the past few months. The Student Section Liaison Chair and I were able to meet with a cou- ple of leading students in February to discuss strategy going forward and recruitment ideas. More recently, the Co-Chair of the Student Section Liaison, David William- son, and I met with the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs for the College of Engineering. We pre- sented a check for $400 to support one of four senior pro- ject teams which the board members approved. It is a great way to get the ISA name in front of UNO students and to promote membership and participation at the UNO student section level and for future regular membership. At the ChemIn- ovations show, the Texas A&M Turbomachinery Lab approached Bill with helping to promote the event. They offered to give N.O. Section a table at the Symposia. The Section declined as it would be better suited for an ISA Section in Houston. The Board agreed to list the event on the Section’s web site. Also, the Board agreed to post event advertisements in the May and August newsletter editions. Report of Officers and Committees President’s Report The President requested an update from the Nominat- ing Committee (Mike Williamson, Mike Benbow, Beth Walker and Ram Ramachandran) on next year’s officers and to assist with any nominations for the society posi- tions available. Mike Williamson reported that there is at least one can- didate running for each position for VP. Ram recom- mended that a vote be held by e-mail and requested that it be sent out by March 15. Results will be announced in the May newsletter. The President suggested that a letter be drafted commu- nicating events in the local area with the local Section to ensure that promotional activities are not missed and at- tendance negatively affected. He indicated he would get assistance on how to best position the request from Ram Ramachandran. President Elect Report Dean Bickerton reported that he is making progress on a possible Automation Fair or ISA Leaders Conference to be held in New Orleans in the future. As of now there is no Automation Fair or ISA Leaders Conference being held in New Orleans. Dean will prepare a report on the conference/automation fair. A table top meeting will not be held. An e-mail vote will be held at the board level with submission of a budget. • The Society informed all Sections that sections must file an annual return with the IRS. Chris noted that he is aware of the rule and that the New Orleans Section files this in October. • The 13th ISA Annual Fugitive Emissions and LDAR Symposium is scheduled for 21–23 May 2013 in New Orleans, La., USA. If anyone is in possession of receipts, please give them to Chris. Chris also requested a heads-up before a transaction is made so that he does not get surprised by charges show- ing up that are not expected. Chris requested that the MOP be reviewed/revisited as it is not explicit at all as to the rules regarding the Presi- dent and Vice President being issued debit cards. Note that the Vice President has not been issued a debit card. There was much discussion about this and as time was running out it will be added to future review/discussions. This is very good, especially since a good number of mechani- cal engineers end up in the automation field too. Lastly, for most of the term, we have filled all but one seat on the board and have a couple of Co-Chairs. And, for the first time in more than five years, we have two candidates for the office of Vice President.
