                                                  The port is administered by an autonomous
                                                  municipal body with a separate corporate identity,
                                                  called Antwerp Port Authority.
                                                  It owns the docks and the sites used by port
                                                  operators and industries on the Right Bank, and
                                                  also some of the port’s equipment.
                                                  Moreover, the Antwerp Port Authority is
                                                  responsible for the management of the port on
                                                  the Left Bank, thus ensuring the application of
                                                  uniform policies on both sides of the river.
                                                  General land development and industrialisation
                                                  on the Left Bank is in the hands of an
                                                  intermunicipal corporation.
                                                  The Antwerp Port Authority has a workforce of
                                                  1,600. It owns and manages docks, berths, locks
                                                  and bridges. It is responsible for planning,

                   Scheldt   Port Authority       the port, and for operating its own equipment,
                                                  including floating cranes, shore cranes, tugs and
                                                  dredgers.
