The Special Operations Resuscitation Team (SORT) provides robust medical support at the Role II level for Special Operations Forces. SORT was created in response to a need identified in 2003 for expeditionary medical support for initial entry operations. SORT provides trauma resuscitation, critical care, and en route care for injured SOF operators. When combined with other SOF medical assets like the Air Force Special Operations Surgical Team, SORT forms the basis of a Joint SOF Role IIb package capable of surgical resuscitation far forward. SORT has deployed multiple times in the last year to Afghanistan and Europe, treating over 80 trauma patients and providing additional medical support to SOF and local populations.
