The 2007 Super 14 final between the Sharks and Bulls was a close game. The Sharks took an early lead through a penalty by Percy Montgomery, but the Bulls scored first through Pierre Spies. Ruan Pienaar's counterattack helped the Sharks score their first try through JP Pietersen. Bryan Habana scored a last-minute try for the Bulls, and though Derick Hougaard still needed the conversion, he made it to secure the Bulls' victory. Victor Matfield and Fourie du Preez then lifted the Super 14 trophy as the first South Africans to do so.
