STABILIZER SHAFT REPLACEMENT
Removal Procedure
1. Position the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
3. Remove the front tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

4. Remove the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement.
5. Remove the steering gear assembly. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (EPS) or Steering Gear
Replacement (HPS) .
6. Rotate the left and right steering knuckle all the way forward.
IMPORTANT: In the following service procedure, it is not necessary to completely
remove the outer tie rod end from the steering rack. Relocate the outer tie
rod end to the side and support if necessary.

7. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamp to cradle bolts.
8. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamps and bushings from the stabilizer bar.
IMPORTANT: In the following service procedure, it is NOT necessary to remove the

4. 9. Remove the catalytic convertor from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement
(LNJ) .
10. Using a jack stand, raise the front of the catalytic convertor until just touches the floor panel
11. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the vehicle through the left wheel opening.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the stabilizer shaft to the vehicle through the left wheel opening.
catalytic convertor from the vehicle. Just remove it from the exhaust
manifold.
IMPORTANT: Take care not to catch the transmission shift cable or left wheel house
plastic trim when removing the stabilizer bar.
IMPORTANT: It may be necessary to rotate the stabilizer shaft 180° while removing it
from the vehicle.

6. 3. Install the stabilizer shaft clamp bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

4. Install the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
5. Install the steering gear assembly. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (EPS) or Steering Gear
Replacement (HPS) .
6. Remove the jack stand from the catalytic convertor.

7. 7. Install the catalytic convertor to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement
(LNJ) .
8. Install the front tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
9. Lower the vehicle.

Stabilizer Shaft Link Ball Stud Nut (Qty: 2)
Tip: Use the proper size allen wrench to keep the stabilizer link ball stud from rotate while
removing or installing the nut.
Tighten: 65 N.m (48 lb ft).

10. LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT
Removal Procedure
2. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

Tighten: 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

1. Remove the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement.
2. Place the control arm in a vise or suitable holding device.
3. Remove the ball joint rivets using the following procedure.
1. Drill through the rivets using a 8 mm (5/16 in) drill bit.
2. Enlarge the hole using a 12 mm (31/64 in) drill bit.
3. Remove any remaining burs from the control arm.
4. Remove the ball joint from the control arm. Note the position of the ball joint for reassembly.

1. Install the ball joint to the control arm as previously noted.
IMPORTANT: The control arm must be clean and free of debris.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
IMPORTANT:  Only use hardware provided with the new ball joint.
 The bolts must be installed with the bolt head on top of the ball joint.

13. 2. Install the ball joint to control arm bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts and nuts to 68 N.m (50 lb ft).
3. Install the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement.

14. 1. Remove the front brake rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement .

2. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
