2. Goals of Presentation
• Review FESTF data requirements
• Describe the link to EPA-OPP endangered
species effects determinations
• Address related current events
February 2004 FIFRA Endangered Species 2
Task Force
3. Background
• 1993 - 1996: Registrants receive
individual, highly variable location
data requirements as conditions on
new registrations
– T&ES steering committee formalized
under auspices of CLA
– Pilot program initiated to evaluate
“feasibility” of proximity analysis
– Proximity analysis determined to be
impractical and unfeasible

Task Force
4. From this came FESTF
• A data development task force composed of 14
pesticide registrants
– Developing data for EPA Office of Pesticide Programs to
meet their needs for generating effects determinations for
endangered species. Data are:
• An Information management system (IMS) is in operation and
being tested in its “alpha” version. A “beta” version is under
development to implement FESTF-approved system
enhancements
• Access to NatureServe data (licensed data on species locations
and biology)

Task Force
5. Status of FESTF Deliverables
• The IMS
– IMS development complete; enhancements
underway
– Case Studies
• Case Study I completed and additional data
needs identified
• Case Study II at initiation stage
• Endangered species data access through
NatureServe to begin in next few months
• On target to submit to EPA March 2005
