- The power steering system uses a rack and pinion gear to reduce the effort needed to turn the steering wheel. When the steering wheel turns, the pinion gear moves the rack left or right which turns the wheels.
- Tests of the power steering system include checking pressure and flow rates at idle and higher engine speeds. Pressure should be within specified ranges and flow rates should not drop more than 1 gallon per minute between tests.
- The steering gear, rack boots, tie rods, and power steering pump can be removed and installed following specific procedures to replace components and bleed the hydraulic system.
