1. PRESS RELEASE
Renton Downtown Partnership
“On The Edge”
Meet the Renton Downtown Partnerships board of directors during a community wide meeting
on June 22, 2015 at 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Renton Pavilion Event Center. The board will be
explaining its plans for downtown and hearing suggestions from the public.
If you walk the streets of downtown Renton you will find an eclectic mix of businesses behind a
façade of historic buildings. New shopping centers and big box developments have cropped up
around the city but downtown has retained a “classic” feel. This tie to the past is something
residents and visitors have come to love but recently some people have felt that downtown
Renton needs some “polishing up.” The newly formed, Renton Downtown Partnership was
organized to help the historic elements of downtown pave a way for Renton’s future. The
Partnership is an all-volunteer organization, made up of local business owners and residents
and is part of the National Main Street Program.
“The Main Street Program has a proven track record of helping improve historic downtown
communities across the country for over 30 years” said Nick Hill. Hill’s business, Antiques 4U
has been situated in the heart of downtown Renton for almost two years. Hill gained a love of
history at an early age. In 2009, he began dealing in antiques. As a business owner he and
many others are ready for downtown to flourish. “The time has come to revitalize downtown
Renton” said Hill. Community Development Project Manager for the city of Renton, John
Collum said “the city has received calls and requests from many community members for a
concerted effort to ramp up downtown revitalization efforts. The Renton Downtown
Partnership can serve as an organization that can coordinate and marshal all of the
stakeholders in downtown. Together business owners and residents can form a unified voice to
make our century-old downtown into a unique, vibrant and diverse commercial center.”
The mission of “RDP” is to foster economic growth and cultural experiences. “Using the
National Main Street Program approach, we hope the Renton Downtown Partnership will work
effectively with downtown stakeholders to enhance the image of downtown, improve its
appearance, expand the commercial sector, and unify the community to ensure that
downtown's revitalization is rooted in a joint private-public sector effort,” said Collum. The
Partnerships motto, “On the Edge” emphasizes how downtown Renton is poised for new
prosperity. Prosperity, which many hope will connect the best of downtown’s past with the
brightness of its future.
