Universal design for learning (UDL) aims to remove barriers from education by providing multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression. UDL is based on research showing the brain has three neural networks for recognition, strategic thinking, and affect. UDL principles encourage designing instruction to activate all networks by varying materials, assessments, and teaching methods based on student skills and interests. Technology plays an important role in UDL by providing flexible formats like electronic textbooks and scaffolding tools to support diverse learners.

Presentation sickle cell anemia diagnostic for rural africaMohita Nimiya
This proposal seeks funding to develop an inexpensive diagnostic device for detecting sickle cell anemia in newborns in rural Kenya. Over 300,000 newborns test positive for sickle cell annually in Africa, but many do not receive treatment due to the inability to follow up after screening. The proposed device would be low-cost, battery-powered, and easy to use, allowing for increased detection and timely treatment in rural health centers. If successful, it could also generate sustainable private businesses and contribute to the local economy through local manufacturing. The proposal requests $10,000 to develop and test a prototype, obtain samples, train local operators, and set up a manufacturing program with collaborators in Kenya.
1. The document defines four levels of intellectual disability based on IQ scores: mild (50-55 to approx. 70), moderate (35-40 to 50-55), severe (20-25 to 35-40), and profound (below 20-25).
2. Adaptive behaviors are defined in nine areas: communication, self-care, home living, social/interpersonal skills, use of community resources, self-direction, functional academic skills, work, and leisure. Deficits in these areas are used to diagnose intellectual disability.
3. Treatment and support strategies are outlined, including early intervention, physical/occupational therapy, education programs, life skills training, and community inclusion programs.
The document discusses the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which aims to remove barriers from teaching methods and materials to help all students achieve success. It was developed based on research showing the brain has three neural networks for recognition, strategic, and affective learning. UDL provides multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement to accommodate diverse learners. Technologies like electronic textbooks and screen readers can make curriculums more accessible when incorporated using UDL guidelines.
This document discusses 7 ways to keep engaged members from leaving an organization. It addresses what makes members fierce and likely to leave, the importance of likability and trustworthiness, telling your organization's story, overcoming resistance to change, using push and pull technology appropriately, and avoiding certain actions that could drive members away. The overall goal is providing guidance to retain an organization's most engaged and committed members.
Alex Agnew outlines their long term career goal of becoming a loan officer within 10 years. They discuss their path to discovering this goal after changing majors several times and getting experience working at a bank. To achieve the goal, Alex has set several short term goals including graduating college in December 2016, moving from their current role as a teller to a new accounts opener, and then to an assistant loan officer to gain experience. Alex's concentrations in Human Resource Development, Organizational Leadership, and Personal Finance will help with the managerial and customer service aspects of being a loan officer.
