  5. Creator: German\nCulture: European; Northern European; German\nTitle: The Temptation of Saint Anthony\nWork Type: Architecture\nWork Type: Glass-Stained\nDate: 1532\nMaterial: Colorless glass, silver stain, vitreous paint\nMeasurements: Diam. 8 in. (20.3 cm)\nDescription: <P>Saint Anthony Abbot's test of faith at the hands of a clutch of demons is represented here in a charming, if somewhat naive, Late Gothic style. Dressed as an abbot, the saint holds a crosier, which terminates in a tau cross and a mendicant's bell; he is surrounded by fantastical beasts. The inscription suggests that the roundel was a donation by a local priest, who kneels before the saint next to his coat of arms.</P> <P>This roundel is stylistically consistent with other works known to have originated in southern Germany. The inscription names the village of Kappel and its priest in 1532.</P>\nDescription: Full View\nRepository: The Metropolitan Museum of Art\nRepository: New York, New York, USA\nRepository: The Cloisters Collection, 1982\nRepository: 1982.433.5\nRepository: http://www.metmuseum.org\nCollection: The Metropolitan Museum of Art Collection\nCollection: Formerly in The AMICO Library\nID Number: MMA_.1982.433.5\nSource: Data From: The Metropolitan Museum of Art\nRights: This image was provided by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. 8. Creator: Designer: Attributed to Jean Perréal, French, ca. 1455-1530\nCreator: Artist: Anonymous (French)\nTitle: Portrait of King Louis XII of France at Prayer\nWork Type: stained glass;portraits\nPeriod: Early Modern\nDate: 1500-1510\nLocation: Place of Origin: France\nMaterial: stained glass\nMeasurements: 31 1/2 x 22 in. (80 x 55.9 cm)\nStyle: Renaissance\nDescription: The French king, Louis XII (1462-1515), clad in an ermine-trimmed mantel, kneels at his devotions and gazes at an unseen religious image or altar. If all the panels of this stained glass still existed, we would probably see a form of self-representation favored by French kings and their cousins, the dukes of Burgundy. The heavy textiles behind Louis function as one of the "walls" of what would be a little room created in a privileged location near the altar of a royal chapel or church. These textile walls would shield him from winter drafts as well as the inquisitive eyes of his courtiers. Jean Perréal was the court painter and famous as a portraitist, though few documented works by him remain.\nRepository: The Walters Art Museum\nRepository: Acquired by Henry Walters\nRepository: 46.34\nRepository: Henry Walters, Baltimore [date and mode of acquisition unknown]; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.\nRepository: http://thewalters.org\nCollection: The Walters Art Museum\nRights: For information on reproductions for publishing or commercial use, Contact Photographic Services at 410-547-9000 ext. 254 or email photoservices@thewalters.org.\nRights: Please note that if this image is under copyright, you may need to contact one or more copyright owners for any use that is not permitted under the ARTstor Terms and Conditions of Use or not otherwise permitted by law. 9. Creator: Artist: Anonymous (German)\nCreator: Artist: After Hans von Kulmbach, German, ca. 1485-1522\nTitle: Stained Glass Roundel with Jousting Scenes\nWork Type: roundels\nPeriod: Renaissance\nDate: 1508\nLocation: Place of Origin: Nuremberg, Germany\nMaterial: stained and clear glass, vitreous paint, pot metal, bottle glass\nMeasurements: 25 3/16 x 19 5/16 in. (64 x 49 cm)\nDescription: Round or rectangular panels of stained glass added decoration as well as changing colored light patterns to a room. They were set into larger windows made up of small segments of clear glass in either a diamond or round (bull's-eye or bottle) pattern, held together with strips of metal.Within the quatrefoil (four-lobe design) are jousting knights, who bear the coats of arms of the Geuder and Rieter von Kronburg families, with their heralds gathered below. The centrally featured coats of arms are the Habsburg double-headed eagle with the combined arms of the houses of Austria and Burgundy on its breast, the Nuremberg "virgin eagle" (municipal emblem) with (to the right) the arms of Nuremberg as an imperial city, and, below, the stars of the Geuder family.\nRepository: The Walters Art Museum\nRepository: Museum purchase, 1951\nRepository: 46.76\nRepository: Gender von Heroltsberg family, by commission; H.
