Sacre bleu! Won’t that cause lots of problems?

Sacre bleu! Won’t that cause lots of problems?
Not according to these ponderings I’ve borrowed
from Ray Molony of LUX magazine – in fact it’ll be
good for the lighting industry
5. 10 reasons why we must follow the French Dialight
1 It’ll save energy
2TWh per year is the
government’s estimate -
that’s equivalent to 750,000
households and 250,000 tons
of CO2.
The Syndicat de L’Éclairage
believes the government’s
savings measure of 2TWh a
year for the night ban is too
optimistic. It calculates
savings of 0.5TWh and with
lighting controls used day and
night could save 16TWh.

2 It’ll encourage good
behaviour
If there’s a bit of a stick to
beat those who leave the
lights on, then of course
behaviour will start to
improve.

7. 10 reasons why we must follow the French Dialight
3 People will see lighting
as a resource
The law says ‘Conserve it, or
you’ll get clobbered’. Now
there’s motivation to do the
right thing!
Power to the big stick to get
things moving.

4 Lighting controls will be
‘the new black’
Much easier to have the
lights control themselves to
meet legal requirements than
expect employees to switch
off responsibly.
And of course LED lighting is
perfectly suited for such
controls …

9. 10 reasons why we must follow the French Dialight
5 Rising electricity prices
aren’t enough
We’re still wasting energy,
even as prices continue to
rise.
This law will stop businesses
wasting money and energy.

6 Starry, starry nights
Forgotten what they look
like?
Time for a romantic trip to
France to see a proper night
sky from 1 July 2013.
Imagine what it would be like
where you live.

11. 10 reasons why we must follow the French Dialight
7 It won’t affect crime
rates
No conclusive evidence from
anywhere in the world to
show that urban lighting cuts
crime, just the fear of crime.
For more on this topic, read
#Gordon Routledge in LUX
magazine.

8 Incentives aren’t
working
Carrots aren’t working in UK
and France, so it’s time for
the stick to make sure that
we switch them off.

13. 10 reasons why we must follow the French Dialight
9 No enforcement issues
How easy can it be to spot
the offenders???

14. 10 reasons why we must follow the French Dialight
10 It’s going to happen
anyway
Why wait?
Let’s get on and do it now in
the UK. It makes so much
sense, n’est-ce pas?
Allez!
