#Reading can be fun, but for some kids it can be a struggle and frustrating. If you are looking to find a great #tutor to help your child discover reading, visit www.OwlTutors.com. We can help make reading fun!
Significant savings can be had by sometimes purchasing used books instead of new for your library. Think about it – a standard used book is in the same condition as one already on your shelf that has been checked out once or twice. Purchasing used books also usually gets the books to you faster. Hear some practical tips on how to do it, and what to look out for, from a librarian who spends thousands of dollars every year on used books.
This presentation was done as part of an examination into the process of weeding in a library. Weeding as we describe is an essential part of any Collection Management policy and is useful not only for the library, but the patrons.

How to review a journal paper and prepare oral presentationSeppo Karrila
The slides are for an about 2-hour lecture to students who each have to review one scientific journal article.
There are guidelines on key content, as well as planning, preparing, and delivering an oral presentation.
This should be useful to any student preparing for an oral presentation with slides.

1. St. Catherine University Library
Please use this and the following slideshows
as an introduction to the library.
To view full screen, click icon in corner
1. Welcome to the Library
2. As a St. Kate’s student, you have
•A librarian who is a subject specialist for your program.
Find yours here.
•The ability to schedule a one on one meeting with a librarian.
•A RefWorks account that helps organize sources and format references. Create
your account here.
•Access to millions of articles and books that can be sources for papers. View the
following slideshows and talk to a librarian to make sure you are fully using the
sources that are available to you.
4. 1. Click “Books” tab
2. Be aware of what you are searching.
• Choose St. Catherine U. if you need
book now.
• Choose CLICnet Libraries if you have
time. Books from other libraries
take about a day to arrive.
• Choose Minnesota Libraries if you
have a lot of time and are doing
extensive research. Books from
non-CLIC libraries can be ordered
through ILL, and take around 1
week to arrive.
5. 3. Search by
title, author, or
topic. You may
combine terms,
eg., Medical
marijuana AND
cancer, but
being too
specific can give
you very few
results.
6. 4. On results page, look at titles and
publication dates to find books that
are relevant and current.
5. Click on title to see description,
location, and availability of book.
7. 6. Read description or table of
contents to ensure book is
relevant to your needs.
8. 7. Check location. St. Kate’s books say SCU or SCU-MPLS.
If at other location, request books using 14-digit barcode on back of
student ID.
9. 8. Return to results to look for more
books, keeping in mind that the most
relevant books may not be on the
first page of results.
10. SCU Reference means book
is in reference section and
must be used in the library.
SCU-MPLS and AVAILABLE means book
is on shelf at Minneapolis campus and
can be checked out.
SCU Circ. and AVAILABLE means book
is on shelf at St. Paul campus and can
be checked out.
11. 9. Write down call number. Books are
arranged in alpha-numeric order. If you
have trouble finding a book, consult a
library worker or the library map.
10. Go to circulation desk with your student ID to check book out.
12. Confused? Have questions?
