2. Bato is one of the eleven ( 11 ) municipalities of
the island province of Catanduanes. It is a fifth
class municipality, located east of Virac – the
capital town of the province. It is the smallest
municipality comprising 3.23 % of the total land
area of Catanduanes. Bato is composed of 27
barangays. It has a total population of 18,937 in
4,062 households, as per September 2014 CBMS
survey .

4. The project is funded through the DSWD
amounting to P850,000.00. LGU Bato is the
implementing agency. All day care centers
including the Child Minding Centers were provided
with big story books and different toys comprising
of musical instruments, puzzles, blocks, and
gardening toys.

The project also include IT instructional materials such as laptop, LCD
projector and speakers. These equipment are important tools during
trainings of day care workers for capability building.

children appreciate big books
with big drawings. They can
easily relate to the stories and
are eager to listen rather than
the usual small books. LGU
fund is not enough to provide
those materials.

9. Natania Karen Romero, 3 years old, and the rest of the Day
Care children loved the puzzle games. Natania said puzzle
game is new to her, they are of different colors.

would ask used toys
from donors to give
to day care children.
Now because of the
toys provided by the
project, the children can easily identify shapes and colors.

waiting for other
children to come.
Ms. Josephine
Turtoga, the Day
Care Worker, shared
that, before, they don’t have toys for children.
Sometimes, parents would bring toys, but after classes
they would bring it back home.

12. Now, at least the toys and books are owned by the
school and every year children can use them. They
are very important in developing intellectual and
cognitive skills of children.

13. To achieve sustainability of quality services to day care children,
consultation dialogue w/ Day Care Parents Committee and Capacity
Building for Child Development Workers are conducted regularly.

16. All departments of the municipal government
are very supportive to the BuB projects. They always
assure the on-time submission of required documents
in every project. Civil Society Organizations are likewise
active in attending meetings conducted by the LPRAT
and other local special bodies. They also help in
monitoring projects.

17. LGU Bato is not just good in implementation of
projects, it also passed the GOLD SEAL OF GOOD LOCAL
GOVERNANCE (SGLG).
In active implementation of various programs
directed towards the development and welfare of
children, Bato was also awarded as a CHILD-FRIENDLY
MUNICIPALITY in the year 2014.
