Ajit Pawar took oath as
the deputy chief minister
of Maharashtra, while

(NCP) took oath as min-
isters in the government
led by the Shiv Sena and
the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) earlier in the day.
“The political devel-
opments that have taken
place in Maharashtra to-
day show that the BJP
wants to eliminate the
opposition parties on the
basis of money power
and central agencies. It is
highly condemnable,”
Gehlot said in a tweet.
He further said, “All
the leaders, includingAjit
Pawar, whom the BJP
used to accuse of corrup-
tion till yesterday, were
inducted in the cabinet.
The BJPhas been nervous
ever since the opposition
parties started coming to-
gether, due to which it is
breaking regional parties
by putting pressure from
central agencies.”
“No matter how much

has decided that it will

day, a road caved in the
posh locality of Shyam
Nagar in Jaipur. Sources
informed that the inci-

of road caved in that left
a crater 15 feet deep and
18 feet long.
Surprisingly, this is
third time that road has

day fired a gunshot at his
wife over suspicion of
her illicit affair, police
said. Police informed the
constable, Mukesh Salvi,
posted in Tiddi Police
Station, opened fire at his
wife, Khushbu Salvi.
“The couple often ex-
changed heated argu-
ments as Mukesh had a
suspicion of her affair.
The accused reached his
in-law’s house and
opened fire on his wife.
Khushbu sustained bullet
injuries on shoulders and
was taken to Maharana
Bhupal Hospital for
treatment,” police said.
“Mukesh Salvi fled from
the spot after firing. Ten-
sion gripped the area fol-
lowing the incident and
extra police personnel

Two people were killed while one was injured
after a speeding car lost its balance and
rammed into a truck in Chittorgarh on Sunday,
police said. Police informed the mishap took place on
Sunday morning in the Gangrar area on Chittorgarh –
Bhilwara highway. “The victims were heading towards
Bhilwara when the car lost its balance and rammed into
the truck from behind. Of the three victims, two includ-
ing a woman and man, died on the spot,” police said.

scheme is given economic
assistance every month to

and clothing for the chil-
dren. CM Gehlot in the

Jalore: A 60-yr-old man
was allegedly shot dead
during a condolence
meeting in Sanchore town
of Jalore on Sunday. Po-
lice informed the de-
ceased has been identi-
fied as Bhikharam, a res-

was abducted and a
ransom of Rs. 25 lakhs was
sought for his safe release.
Police informed the vicitm, a

while he was walking near
his house after having din-
ner. The victim was taken
to Haryana and beaten for
money. The victim paid a
ransom amount of Rs. 12.50
lakh to the accused, follow-

from Narnaul, police said.
The accused again called

t’s hard to imagine a cricket World Cup with-
out the irrepressible West Indies team. So the
failure of Caribbean Calypso, two-time
champions, to qualify for the ODI World Cup to be
hosted by India is too much of a shocker. But that’s
a reality one has to contend with while hoping that
West Indies cricket will bounce back for the next
tournament. West Indies, who were champions in
1975 and 1979, lost to Scotland by seven wickets in
the qualifiers to script this unenviable history.
West Indies cricket has seen a gradual decline over
the last few decades first over players’pay package,
ego issues among players and flight of talent to
other sports. The blame for the decline will have to
be shared by the West Indies Cricket Board and the
players who are more focused on T20 leagues than
Caribbean pride.
Shai Hope, the team’s captain rightly said, “We
cannot expect to wake up one morning and be a
great team.”

hel M. was shot dead by a policeman on the
outskirts of Paris five days ago. Scores of
cars, shops and other properties have been burnt as
incensed teenagers took to the streets to give vent
to their anger and frustration as violence spread to
Marseilles and Lyon. The incident is reminiscent of
the cold-blooded murder of George Floyd, a Black
youth, by a policeman in America’s Minneapolis in
2020. Over the last five days hundreds of protesters
have been arrested and the government has de-
ployed thousands of policemen to control the vio-
lence but with little
effect. The violence
is reported to have
spread to Marseilles
and Lyon.
The violence will
surely be contained
sooner than later and
rioters will be dealt
with in accordance
with the French laws
but what will not go
away is the fear
which this incident
has sparked in the
minds of minorities
over the use of ex-
cessive force by the
police.
The police offic-
ers involved in
Floyd’s murder were convicted on charges brought
by the state and federal governments to instill con-
fidence in the Black community. A similar swift
action against cops who shot Nahel will be like a
soothing balm.
At the same time so much destruction cannot be
justified. Those who have suffered due to large-
scale vandalism may not be even remotely con-
nected with Nahel’s killing. Will the rioters pay for
their avoidable losses? Violence, which is a crime
in itself, can never be justified as means for seeking
justice. Silent protests can also be effective.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court is likely to pronounce
on Monday its order on a public interest litigation (PIL)
challenging the RBI’s decision to withdraw Rs 2,000
denomination banknotes from circulation. A bench of Chief
Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium
Prasad had reserved its order on the PIL on May 30 after
hearing the counsels for the petitioner and the RBI.

graph across the globe.
On the domestic front,
Modi has again emerged
as the most powerful
and decisive Prime
Minister of the country,
who enjoys the trust and
confidence of 140 crore
people of this nation.
We feel proud to have
such a person as the
Prime Minister of the
nation.
zWhat would you like
to say about the manner
in which Modi set a
new narrative for the
2023 and 2024 elections
in Bhopal and attacked
the Opposition leaders
as soon as he returned
from the US trip?
Wonderful. There is
no match of Narendra
Modi when it comes to
setting the narrative.
Along with Uniform
Civil Code, he set his
agenda to work on cor-
ruption and he drove
home the point that those
who met in Patna for a
‘photo session’ in the
name of Opposition uni-
ty, are all corrupt politi-
cians. He said that every
Opposition leader in the
picture has indulged in
at least “Rs 20 lakh crore
corruption.” He guaran-
teed Rs 1.25 crore in
Stalin’s name, 70,000
crore in NCP’s name,
25,000 crore in TMC’s
name and several others.
So, this clearly indicates
that while on the one
hand, the narrative of
Uniform Civil Code
would be set, the other
narrative would be of
major action taken in
cases of corruption
against Opposition lead-
ers. So once again,
Modi’s super-hit narra-
tive has been set.
zHow did the interna-
tional media respond to
Modi’s very successful
visit? Do you feel that
economy has taken the
front seat considering
the defence and trade
agreements signed
during the US and
Egypt visit?
Of course. This has
been happening for the
past few years. What
has changed in Naren-
dra Modi’s nine years of
leadership is that pow-
erful nations that once
cold shouldered India,
today look at India as a
‘Linchpin.’ Nations
want to invest in India.
So, Modi has set the
economic agenda,
whom to purchase
weapons from and who
to sell them to, from
whom to purchase
crude oil, whom to in-
vite and to encourage to
invest in India! Modi
has made India a bold
nation through strong
d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g .
Modi’s multi-aligned
foreign policy has ena-
bled India to build eco-
nomic relations, not just
diplomatic relations. I
would say that today
economy and financial
matters are deciding the
fate of the country in
foreign matters.
zThe manner in which
the US Parliament and
the Indian community
welcomed Modi has
been unprecedented.
Why this craze for Modi
in New York and Wash-
ington?
Craze is still a smaller
word. This was mad-
ness. Those who wit-
nessed it, were baffled.
Public representatives
in American Congress
were standing in line for
autographs and selfies
with Modi. The Presi-
dent and the First Lady
organised a stunning
‘Vegetarian’ State Din-
ner for him. Biden and
the First Lady held
Modi’s hands as they
ushered him into the
White House. He ad-
dressed the Congress
for 58 minutes and he
was given 15 standing
ovations and every few
minutes the Congress
would start clapping for
him. People were in dis-
belief of what was being
streamed from the
American Senate on
their television screens.
It seemed as if Modi
was contesting elections
from America and was
there to address a rally.
Such was the madness!
When he stepped out, he
met people of Indian
origin and women wept
in joy to see him, much
as if they had seen Lord
Krishna in all His glory.
Well, the fact is that
PM Modi was given the
honour of being ‘State
Guest’ for the first time
in the US even though he
has been there seven
times in the past. The
body language of both
the leaders was such that
it never appeared that
the Prime Minister and
President of two nations
were meeting, rather it
appeared as if two
friends were meeting. So
this was remarkable and
quite unbelievable. This
tour has taken Modi’s
popularity to another
level altogether. Call it
popularity or craze,
words are no longer
enough to describe what
has just happened in the
past few days.
zFriends living in
America said that for
the first time, they felt
proud to be an Indian
there. What transpired
that this scenario
changed after all?
It seems that some
‘Daivik’ power moves
about with Narendra
Modi. What we have
seen, cannot come to
pass with an ordinary
human being. Truth be
told, be it USA or UK,
historically Indians
have been treated as
second grade citizens.
Indian passport held no
or little significance.
Today they saw that
American President is
taking autograph of our
Prime Minister and peo-
ple are clicking selfies
with him. Australian PM
is terming Modi as the
‘Boss’ and some PM is
touching Modi’s feet.
This is wonderful. This is
the capability and popu-
larity of Modi’s leader-
ship. Biden is raising ‘no
alcohol’toast and saying
that Modi and US are to-
gether. They felt that not
just the Indian Embassy,
but even the people living
there are Indian Ambas-
sadors. So, you feel proud
about it. Modi’s aura and
persona that came to fore
in the US, has filled Indi-
ans with pride.
zDoes a popular Indi-
an Prime Minister like
Narendra Modi influ-
ence the politics of
votes in America as
well?
He does. Modi is a
genius. About 54 lakh
Indians live in America
and obviously they
would vote for some-
one. Earlier, Trump too
used to do all this and
the politicians realise
the fact that a great
number of Indians re-
side in the US. It would
not be wrong to say that
about 97 percent of
those Indians would be
alert to the signalling by
Modi or would know
who to vote for given
that the US is tilting to-
wards India. So Modiji,
while seated in Delhi, is
able to affect the poli-
tics in US.
zHow do you rate
Modi as a Communica-
tor?
Wonderful! His one-
to-one connect at the
grassroots has no match.
We saw in America that
everyone wanted to
shake hands with Modi
and our PM obliged.
You saw how he con-
nected with everyone
through ‘Mann Ki Baat.’
People who were never
on forefront, he brought
them forward. You saw
how he changed the dy-
namics of Padma
Awards. Nowadays, he
has found one more way
to communicate. He ex-
plains everything to
people like a teacher
does. He uses hand ges-
tures to effectively con-
vey the message in a few
sentences and as a re-
sult, other orators fail
while Modi has a terrific
mass appeal. Modi is a
great communicator and
those who must be writ-
ing his speeches or giv-
ing him inputs, must be
elated to have someone
like Modi to present
their inputs, after value
addition, and in such a
charismatic fashion.
zIt is an emotional
question, Modi of 30
years back in America
and Modi of today.
What is the difference?
There is an immense
difference. Really, it is
an emotional question. I
feel that Modi’s erst-
while equation with
America would have
crossed his mind. His
mother, if she were
alive, would have been
happy to see her son,
who was once denied
US visa, has earned
such love and respect in
the US today. Modi
might have felt bad then
and it is only human to
feel so. And today it is
the same Modi, the son
of Gujarat, for whom
Americans are doing
everything that they
can. These were won-
derful moments. Modi
himself said that 30
years back when he had
visited America, he
stood outside the White
House. People usually
stand outside the White
House and get their pic-
tures clicked and he too
might have done that.
But today, he is domi-
nating the same White
House. Our journalists
who went with Modi
from India, must have
returned extremely im-
pressed with his status.
So, definitely this was
an emotional moment of
Modi’s life.
zAfter achieving 76%
global popularity, what
is on Modi’s mind now?
I have said this earlier
too that he is a ‘Fakir.’
He has evolved into a
Spiritual Guru and now
people say he is going to
become ‘Vishwa Guru’.
His heart is such that if
one day he remembers
the mountains of
Himachal, he would
pick up his ‘jhola’ and
head to the mountains,
leaving everything be-
hind. He would become
father of the nation,
whether formally or in-
formally. So he is like
an ascetic and when he
feels like, he will do so.
But one thing is sure, he
has said that he will
continue to serve the na-
tion till his last breath.
Besides, people close to
him say that only the
Nobel Prize is left for
him. Although Modiji is
in no need of awards,
people still feel that he
should get one. As far as
Modi is concerned, he
has become a spiritual
leader and is on the path
to becoming ‘Vishwa
Mitra’ and ‘Vishwa
Guru.’ He is extremely
strong emotionally and
spiritually and sudden-
ly, one fine day, if he
takes such a decision,
then it should not come
as a surprise. However,
I do not see such a thing
happening for the next
five-six years.
zHow do you see the
manner in which
Pakistan has been
warned in the US-Indo
joint statement?
It can be counted as a
major success of Naren-
dra Modi’s diplomacy
as a very strong joint
statement was issued.
Every time it was said
that their land should
not be used for anti-In-
dia activities. But this
time around, the matter
was extremely serious.
America has not forgot-
ten the 9/11 attack and
India has not forgotten
26/11. Both the nations
are scarred and the
wounds inflicted by ter-
rorists continue to hurt.
This brings both nations
on the same platform,
ideologically, when it
comes to countering
terrorism. And it has
happened for the first
time in Modi’s leader-
ship that Kashmir issue
has practically become
non-existent. Other-
wise, that issue used to
come up every time a
PM would visit USA.
Pakistan’s economy is
in a shambles. Foreign
Minister has clearly
said that trade during
the day and terror by
night will not work. In-
dia’s foreign policy is
extremely strong and
whenever the opportu-
nity presents itself, In-
dia will take its step
against Pakistan with-
out worrying about in-
ternational pressure.
For example, Article
370 was abrogated and
prior to this, everyone
said there will be inter-
national pressure, but
see, did anything hap-
pen? Such is the situa-
tion that G20 team went
to Srinagar for meeting
and everyone was sur-
prised that the valley is
peaceful. So, Modi has
gone beyond the im-
pression and controver-
sies of international
propaganda.

does the need arise for a Guru?
Guru is the divine link between the
superconsciousness and the human
soul. Guru shapes and guides the
person on the path of peace and
knowledge.
Lord Brahma recited and great
Guru Vyasa wrote all four Vedas
for the benefit of mankind. He also
wrote many Puranas. Thus, a full
moon day was dedicated to the Gu-
rus and called ‘Guru Purnima.’
Every person in this world is in
debt to Saint Vyasa for his invalu-
able contribution to the world.
India is perhaps the only country
in the world that has a special day
celebrating the guru as the spiritu-

the guru is one of the pil-
lars of India’s traditional
system of spiritual knowl-
edge, reflecting the
need for instruction
and practices rec-
ommended at an
individual level.
Modern India
has been bless-
ed with dozens
of great gu-
rus, who
have
appeared in every generation. A
number of these great masters in-
spired India’s independence move-
ment like Sri Aurobindo, Swami
Rama Tirtha and Swami Vive-
kananda. Some taught through si-
lence like Ramana Maharshi and
were still able to command world-
wide recognition. Some have set
up numerous schools and institu-
tions like Swami Chinmayananda;
others have preferred to remain
unknown. Most gurus are part of
long lineages extending back
many generations if not centuries.
APJ Abdul Kalam
had just finished his
interview at the Air
Force Selection Board
at Dehra Dun. But he
could finish only
ninth in the batch of
25 examined to select
eight officers. Deeply
disappointed, he
trekked down to Ri-
shikesh. He bathed in
the Ganga and walked
to an Ashram nearby.
It was the Ashram of
Swami Sivananda.
Before Kalam could
speak anything, Swa-
mi asked him about
the source of his sor-
row. Kalam told him
about his unsuccess-
ful Air Force inter-
view. Dr Kalam nar-
rates in his own words
what happened next
in his autobiography,
The Wings of Fire:
When the student is
ready, the teacher will
appear - How true!
Here was the teacher
to show the way to a
student who had near-
ly gone astray! “Ac-
cept your destiny and
go ahead with your
life. You are not des-
tined to become an
Air Force pilot. What
you are destined to
become is not re-
vealed now but it is
predetermined. For-
get this failure, as it
was essential to lead
you to your destined
path. Search, instead,
for the true purpose of
your existence. Be-
come one with your-
self, my son! Surren-
der yourself to the
wish of God.” Swa-
miji said.
Filled with energy,
Kalam returned to
Delhi where he had
also attended another
interview for the posi-
tion of Senior Scien-
tific Assistant, Direc-
torate of Technical
Development and
Production, DTD P
(Air) at the Ministry
of Defence. He had
been selected and
then the rest, as they
say, was history.
Meera was a 16th-
century Bhakti saint
who sang mystic me-
lodious hymns on
Krishna. She was a
Rajput princess and a
widow.Against oppo-
sition from her clan as
to the way she was
becoming the epicen-
tre of a very popular
Bhakti movement,
she stood firm in her
devotion to Shri
Krishna - her Lord
and the Lord of the
Universe. According
to one of the many
traditional narratives,
she nevertheless
needed a guru to initi-
ate her properly in
t h e
science
of self-real-
ization. She
chose Guru
Ravidas as her
guru. She went to
Kashi and was given
theAdvaitic non-dual
wisdom by the Guru.
Some historians
claim that there is no
proof for this to have
happened. But the
civilisational wisdom
of India in creating
these traditions is far
more honest heart of
India than the superfi-
cial data quest of the
historians.
Guru Ravidas was
born into a family of
cobblers, considered
untouchables by the
socially stagnant
elite. Mirabai was a
queen widow.
By making Mirabai
the disciple of Guru
Ravidas, the empha-
sis is made that there
can be no birth-
based or gen-
d e r - b a s e d
distinctions
in attaining
spiritual enlighten-
ment, which is su-
preme knowledge.
This also makes it
clear that in all other
domains, any birth-
based or gender-
based discriminations
are non-essential and
could be eschewed as
society evolves and
progresses.

The guru who initiatedAdi Shanka-
ra into sanyasi and imparted him
Advaita was Govinda Bhagavatpa-
da. The practical Vedanta was im-
parted to Adi Shankara through a
Chandala in the holy city of Kashi.
Here, when Adi Sankaracharya
and his disciples asked a Chandala
to move out of the way, the Chan-
dala asked if they were asking the
body or the aatma to move.
He pointed sharply to the non-
dualism that exists both in terms of
the physical elements that form the
bodies of all and the aatma that per-
vades all. Hence, for a teacher of
non-dualism to ask another human
being to move away was untenable.
The question made Adi Shanka-
racharya realise Advaita in all its
splendour and implications. He
bowed to the Chandala and consid-
ering him as his guru sang the Man-
isha Panchakam - wherein he stated
that he accepts as his guru any per-
son irrespective of his social or birth
status, who has discrimination and
Advaitic vision.
Chhatrasal, a young war-
rior who was orphaned by
Mughal aggression was
searching to free the na-
tion from the tyranny of
Mughals. Tradition has it
that when he consulted
with Chhatrapati Shivaji
he realised the impor-
tance of having a spiritual
mentor for undertaking
what appeared to be a hu-
manly impossible mis-
sion. One night, in 1683,
in the Chhatarpur forests
of Bundelkhand,
Chhatrasal took asylum
in a lonely hut where
there was a sage who
called him by his name.
That was Mahamati Pran-
nath who belonged to
Pranami Sampradaya of
Sanatana Dharma.
He not only blessed
Chhatrasal with his sword
but also blessed him that
the region would have
diamond mines which
could help the young
Hindu warrior raise an
army against their ag-
gressive tormentors. The
place where the saint
promised the king abun-
dance of diamonds today
has diamond mines.
India owes so much to
Guru Mahamati Prannath
but for whom Bun-
delkhand would have
suffered under the
Mughal tyranny.

the ‘Under the Mask’ ex-
hibition promises to be a
captivating display of
Himmat Shah’s latest col-
lection of contemporary
artworks. Additionally,
the show will feature a
selection of new sculp-
tures created by Himmat
Shah, including a unique
piece adorned with real
diamonds, showcased for
the first time in India.
Visitors will also have the
opportunity to witness the
unveiling of a compre-
hensive biography titled
‘Portrait of the Artist,’
providing insights into
Himmat Shah’s life and
