Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Oda nekalta dėl veido senėjimo
1. Stebuklingi žodžiai
Klausimas. Ar žinote, kodėl su
amžiumi nukaba nosies ir lūpų klostės,
lūpų kampai ir kt.?
Atsakymas. Oda su amžiumi išsi-
tampo veikiama gravitacijos ir dėl to, kad
joje sumažėja kolageno ir elastino kiekis.
Klausimas. Ar žinote, kodėl su
amžiumi taip pasikeičia veido bruožai,
dažnai neatpažįstamai?
Atsakymas. Oda su amžiumi išsi-
tampo ir sukrenta klostėmis.
Klausimas. Ar žinote, dėl kokios prie-
žasties oda praranda elastingumą?
Atsakymas. Oda su amžiumi netenka
savo kolageno ir elastino.
Klausimas. Kodėl metams bėgant
kaklo oda suglemba ir susiraukšlėja, o
pats kaklas sutrumpėja?
Atsakymas. Todėl, kad veikiant
amžiaus nulemtiems procesams, odoje
sumažėja kolageno ir elastino gamyba.
Klausimas. Kodėl su amžiumi nusi-
leidžia antakiai?
Atsakymas. Todėl, kad oda išsitampo
ir veikiama gravitacinių jėgų krenta
žemyn.
Taigi, šio nesudėtingo žaidimo esmė:
manipuliuojant tik keliais žodžiais:
kolagenas, elastinas, gravitacinės jėgos,
amžiaus nulemti procesai, galima suda-
ryti bet kokias frazes, kuriomis bus atsa-
kyta į visus Jūsų užduotus klausimus.
Svarbiausia yra tai, kad taip žaidžia
„chuliganai“ – farmacinės korporaci-
jos, kosmetologai, plastikos chirurgai
ir susikrauna turtus parduodami „jau-
ninančius“ kremus, kurie esą patemps
suglebusią odą, injekcijas, kurios papil-
domai pamaitins netenkančią elastino
ir kolageno odą, aparatines procedūras,
kurios atstatys kolageną, ir skalpelius,
kurie nupjaus nereikalingą, išsitampiu-
sią odą. Šiame žaidime visada pralaimi
nieko nematanti, akla liaudis, nuolan-
kiai vykdanti „chuliganų“ numatytas
žaidimo taisykles ir taip atsisveikin-
dama su pinigais.
Palikim odą ramybėje.
Pažaiskime dar!
Įsivaizduokit, kad Jūs, nedaug apie
automobilius išmanantis žmogus, atei-
nate į automobilių remonto įmonę
skųsdamasis, kad prastai važiuoja Jūsų
mašina. Aiškinate meistrui, kad maši-
noje kažkas stuksi, blogai sukiojasi
vairas ir t. t. Meistras atsako: „O ko Jūs
norite – mašina 5 metų senumo, todėl
ji nevažiuos kaip nauja. Žiūrėkite, jau ir
dažai kai kur atsilupę, kapotas purvinas.
Štai ją nuplovus ir išvalius ar perdažius,
ji ir važiuotų kaip nauja.“
Netgi jei Jūs niekada nesėdėjote prie
automobilio vairo, tokie paaiškinimai
Jums atrodys nesuprantami. Aišku,
kad atlikus kosmetinį remontą, mašina
nevažiuos kaip nauja. Taip yra ir su kos-
metologais, kurie pasakoja apie Jūsų
veido problemas.
viso to, ką galima įvardyti karkasu, ant
kurio užtempta oda. Ir visa ši sistema
nėra amžina: ilgainiui keičiasi kaukolės
forma, atrofuojasi ir sausėja raumenys,
pradeda spazmuoti kapiliarai, išsitampo
jungiamieji audiniai ir t. t. O mes vis
klausiame: kodėl taip pasikeičia,„išplau-
kia“ veido ovalas, nusileidžia antakiai,
apdrimba vokai, atsiranda nosies ir lūpų
klostės,„buldogo“ skruostai, ir gauname
atsakymą – oda išsitampo dėl amžiaus ir
gravitacijos.
Raumenys traukiasi
Iš tiesų viskas daug sudėtingiau. Aišku,
su amžiumi mažėja odos elastingumas
ir galimybės trauktis. Tai ypač lemia daž-
nas svorio kitimas ir nuolatiniai pabrinki-
mai, nulemti įvairių negalavimų (inkstų,
širdies ir kt. ligų). Įprastai sveiko žmo-
gaus oda stengiasi trauktis, norėdama
prisitaikyti prie sausėjančių ir besidefor-
muojančių vidinių struktūrų. Pagrindinė
priežastis, dėl kurios atsiranda visi apdri-
bimai ir raukšlės, glūdi mūsų raume-
nyse. Jų senėjimas turi daug didesnes
pasekmes nei kūno raumenų.
Pasirodo, kad visų veido raumenų
tonuso praradimas – taip pat mitas.
Senstant jie ne atsipalaiduoja, o atvirkš-
čiai – raumenys pradeda spazmuoti,
traukiasi. Šis procesas vadinamas hiper-
tonusu. Skirtingai nei kūno raumenys,
kurie prie kaulų tvirtinasi abiem galais,
veido mimikos raumenys vienu galu
tvirtinasi prie kaulo, kitu – prie veido
odos. Jiems pradedant spazmuoti, atsi-
radusi nereikalinga oda (kuri, praras-
dama elastingumą nespėja susitraukti
kartu su spazmuotu raumeniu) neišven-
giamai sukrenta klostėmis.
Kad geriau suprastumėte šį procesą,
įsivaizduokite, kad Jūsų veido oda – tai
švarko pamušalas. Būna, kad po nepa-
vykusio valymo švarko pakietinimas
susitraukia ar susigumuliuoja – tokiu
atveju audinys sukris ar „susibanguos“.
Taip ir su oda. Ji dengia raumenis, kurie
sutrumpėja dėl hipertonuso (spazmo).
Vienu galu raumuo remiasi į odą, kitu – į
kaulą, akivaizdu, kad jiems sutrumpėjus,
atliekama oda „susibanguoja“ kaip ir
švarko pamušalas, bet žmogus yra tiesiai
vaikščiojanti būtybė, tad oda sukrinta
klostėmis dėl traukos. Hipertonusas
tampa bloku-kišene, kuris užkerta kelią
laisvai tekėti limfai. Daugeliui žmonių
pasitaiko vienokių ar kitokių problemų,
susijusių su limfos tekėjimu. Tuomet
šios „kišenės“ po truputį užsipildo limfa
ir neišvengiamai nosies ir lūpų klostės
dar labiau nukąra ir jas dar labiau veikia
traukos jėga.
Tobulinkime savo rankomis
Mimikos raukšlės taip pat formuojasi
dėl raumenų hipertonuso. Pakanka tik
atpalaiduoti raumenį ir jos dingsta be
pėdsakų.Tai supranta kiekviena moteris,
kuri yra informuota apie botulino injek-
cijos darbo principą – jis taip pat atpa-
laiduoja raumenį. O juk visai nebūtina
naudoti invazinius metodus.
Pasirodo, atpalaiduoti raumenį galima
gana lengvai ir savo rankomis: pašalinti
raukšles ir klostes, ištempti spazmuotą
kaklą. Atkreipkite dėmesį, kad pagrin-
dinius mūsų išvaizdos defektus sąlygoja
spazmuoti raumenys. Kaktos raumens
spazmas formuoja skersines raukšles.
Horizontalios raukšlės virš nosies ir verti-
kalios kaktos raukšlės taip pat atsiranda
dėl raumenų hipertonuso. Nosies ir lūpų
klostės jaunystėje – tai visada raumens
hipertonusas ir tik su amžiumi šis blokas
prisipildo limfos.
Galbūt ši frazė Jums pasirodys keista:
kokios dar nosies ir lūpų klostės tokiame
amžiuje, juk tai pagrindinis amžiaus
atributas? Visai ne. Užčiuopti šias klos-
tes galima jau ir pas mimikas darantį
aštuonmetį vaiką. Sulaukę 16–17 metų,
daugelis jau turi šiuos defektus. Bet mes
jų paprasčiausiai nematome, priskirdami
juos genetinėms savybėms. Juk mes
nustatome amžių, galima sakyti, pojū-
čiais, vadovaudamiesi intuicija, paremta
gyvenimiška patirtimi ir užsifiksavusia
mūsų smegenyse. Sąmoningai priski-
riame tai išoriniams atributams, už kurių
užkliūva žvilgsnis ir kurie paremti socia-
liniais stereotipais.
Pagrindinės priežastys
Pagrindinė mūsų senėjančių veidų
priežastis – visai ne raukšlės (kaip esame
įpratę galvoti), o viso raumenų kor-
seto deformacija. Ir čia pirmiausia kalti
ne mimikos raumenys, o kramtomieji,
kurie laiko mūsų žandikaulį. Viršutinio ir
apatinio žandikaulių susijungimo vieta,
sugalvota pačios Gamtos ir skirta emo-
cijoms reikšti, yra silpnoji grandis, nuo
kurios prasideda visos biomechaninės
konstrukcijos byrėjimas.
Žandikaulis, daugeliu atveju nuo
streso, kurį mes stengiamės išgyventi
„sukandę dantis”, pradeda sukiotis, dan-
tys trintis ir t. t. (išsamiau šis procesas
aprašytas Natalijos Osmininos knygoje
„Veido senėjimo anatomija, arba Kos-
metologijos mitai“).
Viliuosi, kad iš šio straipsnio Jūs
supratote esmę: yra dvi pagrindinės su
amžiumi atsirandančių veido defektų
priežastys: kaukolės ir raumenų defor-
macija: blokai ir spazmai tiek kramto-
mųjų, tiek mimikos raumenų. Ir tik vėliau
ant šio pagrindo formuojasi paburkimai,
apdribimai, vysta kapiliarai. Džiugu,
kad visas šias struktūras galima fizio-
logiškai paveikti, ištiesiant organizmui
ranką, o ne pakišant koją. Tada praktiš-
kai neišsenkantys organizmo resursai su
džiaugsmu leis save jauninti.

Beje...
Mimikos raukšlės laikomos žmo-
gaus sielos atspindžiu – juk būtent
jos išduoda, kuris žmogus linkęs
nuolat šypsotis, o kuris vaikšto susi-
rūpinęs, kas nuolat pyksta, o kas vis-
kuo stebisi.
Tačiau nesvarbu, ką apie tai sakytų
fizionomistai – grožio mimikos raukš-
lės tikrai neprideda. Mes nesiūlome
virsti porcelianinėmis lėlėmis, kurių
veidai neišduoda jokios emocijos,
tačiau pasistenkite bent jau nesirau-
kyti, kai esate vienos. Kontroliuokite
savo veido išraišką, kai dirbate kom-
piuteriu, žiūrite televizorių – stenki-
tės, kad veido raumenys kuo ilgiau
ir dažniau būtų atsipalaidavę, nešio-
kite saulės akinius, kad nereikėtų
be reikalo raukyti kaktos. Taip pat
nuo mimikos raukšlių apsisaugoti
padeda specialūs pratimai veidui.
