Shane bought an oyster farm so that he could work on the water, be in touch with his surroundings and be a caretaker for the environment. He feels that it is an exciting time for the oyster industry as farmers become more environmentally friendly and explore new markets for their product. Shane thinks Wapengo is the perfect place to grow Sydney Rock Oysters because of the water quality that results from having a clean catchment area and a rapid tidal exchange of fresh water. He prides himself on working in conjunction with the natural ecosystem – a healthy estuary means healthy oysters! Shane now has an oyster bar in the local township where he enjoys seeing people appreciate his beautiful product. Operating an oyster farm and an oyster bar keeps him extremely busy, but luckily he loves it!
