2. What is the Leveson Inquiry?
The Leveson Inquiry is about the culture,
ethics and practices of media. The inquiry
was a way of regulating the Press. There
are basic rules and standards that the
press, journalists and members that work in
the sector of Media must follow.
3. What was the reason for this
Inquiry?
The official reason for this inquiry was purely
on the basis of the phone hacking scandal.
This is where many celebrities had their
voicemail’s were hacked and many
messages were deleted. The scandal was
an alarm for change that was needed.
Therefore strict rules needed to be taken to
stop these scandals from occurring.
4. An current event relating to
the Inquiry
An important event that happened recently that
backs up as evidence as to why the Leveson’s
Inquiry should take place. A radio station in
Australia decided to prank call the hospital in
which the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate
Middleton was staying. The prank elevated
where the nurses at the hospital believed that
the presenters were the Queen and Prince of
England and shared out vital information about
the duchess health on air in Australia.
5. Consequence…
Certain events such as the scandal and the
prank call ensures that Leveson’s inquiry
should take place. The reason for this is that
many ethical standards were broken. In the
case of those two Australian presenters they
intervened into someone’s personal life and
caused them distress. Therefore Leveson’s
inquiry is more an more likely to be issued.
