1. Ready To Shop For The Hottest
#Throwback Trends Of 2016?
Brace yourselves: Fashion trends are rising from the crypt and they’re headed straight for
the runway. If you think we’re exaggerating, we’re really not. As children from the late
80’s, we know how painful it is to go through childhood albums with pictures of our
adolescent selves grinning with glee whilst sporting a pair of bell-bottoms. And although
some clothing choices seem like disasters even today, there are others we welcomed back
with open arms as designers paid ode to the 80’s and 90’s for most of 2016. Now, who
could say no to a brief Marilyn Monroe moment…
…or even chokers, camis, and bold and dark lipsticks that the IT girls’ club—Kendall,
Gigi, Bella, Hailey—were spotted wearing on numerous occasions. We show you where
you can shop for these #throwbacktrends, which are just as relevant and completely on
point even today:
The re turn of the Scrunchie . She ’s small but powe rful.
Now, Carrie Bradshaw may have dismissed the scrunchie in SATC but we’ve got news for
you babe, this hair-tie is totally a thing in 2016. No, we’re not layering scrunchies around
our ponytails to create volume and no, it’s not okay to wear the Mom Scrunchie. The idea
is to channel your inner 90s girl and wear your s crunchie with a varsity jacket, sparkly
sequin skirt or bold patterned leggings for maximum effect. It’s all about going back to
school with this one. Get your own here.
Channe l your inne r Indiana Jones with the Combat Boot.
It looks badass, feels comfortable and is only a tiny bit Lara Croft. In the 90’s, we wore
them with everything from slip dresses to flannel shirts but it’s 2016 now, so wear them
with micro shorts to the club or with tights and a wool skirt for the festive holiday
season. Get a pair of fierce combat boots here.
The m Chokers, the y’re e verywhere!
Think Britney Spears circa 1999 and you’re on the right track. All our favorite styles are
back—tattoo chokers, elegant gemstone chokers, velvet string chokers, and even the dog
collar. Interestingly, the first choker necklace can be seen in illustrations from the French
2. revolution. But this year, Jean Paul Gaultier led the choker train with his collection at
Paris Fashion Week way back in January and since then it’s caught on (Taylor Swift,
Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Beyonce have all been working them). Get
with the trend here.
Dig out your darke st shade of lip colour, it’s pivotal.
Vampish and seductive with shades and colors for every occasion, this is one trend every
girl can pull off. An autumnal brown for the day and a deeper plum for the night is just
the way to go about it; dare to wear black, do so by all means! And although the dark lip
is all the rage, the contrasting lip liner that it first came with is not; opt for a self -on-self
tone when picking out your lip kits and don’t forget to blend. Get your dark lipstick fix
here.
It’s all about the Platform he e l.
Providing girls extra height without the pain of a stretched arch, it’s surprising this trend
went away at all. For 2016, the platform shoe is back by popular demand and this time
it’s Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner paving the way instead of the Spice Girls. They can
be worn in the conventional way, or in the new flatform style. Nice knowing you,
stilettos, we’ve been aching for this day (pun intended). Pair these babies with anything
for any occasion; there’s little scope to go wrong. Buy them here.
Surprise , surprise—the Fanny Pack arrive s.
Yes, you heard it right. Not many would’ve thought the bum bag would make a
comeback. In fact, most people treated the fanny pack as they would an annoying third
cousin. They barely acknowledged its existence. But it just made a red carpet entrance.
Even top fashion designers from Alexander Wang to Karl Lagerfeld have embraced the
trend on the runway. Get your Fanny fix here.
Ge t that hair slicked back and those Wayfare rs on, baby.
We’re loving the Wayfarer’s second innings (possibly because they are iconic). Let’s not
forget that it was none other than Dylan who became the poster boy for these shades
(well, him and the Blues Brothers). Also, if they’re good enough for Victoria Beckham,
they’re good enough for us. Buy your sunnies here.
Acid Washe d De nim? Noooo… Yes?
Jeans are the most versatile piece of clothing (a silent prayer for the myriad of alterations
denim has gone through with regards to fit or fabric). This would be the second coming of
3. the acid wash in our lifetime and although Gigi Hadid was working the trend in a two -
piece, there is a certain sophistication that 2016 has lent the bleached denim. We
recommend you opt for a simple fade (nothing too stark, contrasting, or patchy). Here are
some styles that are worth your money.
