2. Introduction
• Environmental and Social Development
Organization (ESDO) has launched a Zero Waste
Village/Community, complete waste management
project, in association with the Lahanti
Foundation, a local indigenous community
organization.
• Our vision is to establish and up-scale a model
of organic and environmentally safe and
sustainable village that will be called “Zero Waste
Village”, where all waste generated will be seen
as a resource for the collective development of the
community.

Rajshahi district to make it
a model village for all

•General support from the community
•Participation of the residents of the community
•Collection of wastes containg 85% organic material
which lead to the development higher quality
compost materials to be used at kitchen garden.
•Collection of large quantity of recyclable materials
•Positive environmental profile of the municipality
leading to privileged access to environmental
funding, increased eco-tourism etc.

•Lack of awarness and efforts from the residents
•Need of highly efficient waste collection systems
and services
•Need of more separation of the source stream of
waste
•Lack of proper education among the residents
•Lack of funding support of infrastructural
development & other support services

•Contribution to the local, regional and national
authorities in meeting their respective legislative
targets
•Valorization of waste and reduction of greenhouse
gases through waste management
•Extension of landfill lifetime expectancy.

food security and development of sustainable and green
environment.
