3. Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance
Our vision for the Alliance
• Building on the ambitions set out by the Cancer Taskforce, the Cancer Alliance will
work across an integrated cancer care system to:
• Reduce variations and inequalities in delivery cancer services
• Improve accessibility and affordability for cancer services
• Redesign and improve diagnostic services so that earlier identification of
cancer can be made
• Support improvements in outcomes through prevention and earlier diagnosis
• Support patients and carers on their cancer journey, listening and responding
to their needs
“Working in collaboration, our aim is to drive change across an integrated
cancer system - delivering on shared ambitions to provide sustainable, safe
and high quality care to patients in Surrey and Sussex”

4. Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance
Our 4 work-streams
• The Cancer Alliance has identified 4 pathway work-streams to drive delivery of the
programme
• Each work-steam will be clinically led
• Our work-streams will be co-ordinated by a Programme Management Office
• Working as ‘task and finish groups’, each work-stream will report to the Surrey and
Sussex Cancer Alliance Board as part of our governance structure
• Membership of the 4 work-steams will include the correct blend of representation
across both Surrey and Sussex

5. Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance
Earlier diagnosis
• The Alliance is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from suitable clinicians or
senior healthcare leaders to take up a Clinical Workstream Lead role for Earlier
Diagnosis
• This workstream will also be supported by a mini-PMO structure (Project Managers,
Project Co-ordination and Informatics Support)
• Once a Clinical Workstream Lead is appointed, the Alliance must rapidly set out key
aims and objectives for the Earlier Diagnosis workstream
• The Alliance must build on the successful work already developed and delivered,
without losing momentum
• Engage with clinicians and leaders to define the Earlier Diagnosis work programme
• Excellent, early support from the 3 STP SROs for Earlier Diagnosis (and Prevention)

• CWT performance across the Alliance
• Variation in incidence: smoking, obesity and alcohol
• Outcomes for lung cancer
• Survival rates
• Patient satisfaction with service
• Reflection of previous investment priorities and challenged secondary care providers
