BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants
The BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants are available
to support primary research in the humanities and social
sciences.
These awards, up to £10,000 in value and tenable for up to
24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses
arising from a defined research project.
BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants
• Scheme Opens - 5 September 2018
• Deadline - 7 November 2018 (5pm UK time)
• Final Award Announcement expected - 31 March
2019
• Earliest Award Start Date - 1 April 2019
• Latest Award Start Date - 31 August 2019
Eligibility
Awards are open to postdoctoral scholars (or equivalent) who are
ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom. Applications require the
approval of the applicant's employing institution, but are not limited to
those of any particular status. Application may be made by independent
scholars (who should choose 'independent scholar' as the relevant
choice from the list of organisations in Flexi-Grant). Co-applicants may
be from anywhere in the world, but the Principal Applicant must be
ordinarily resident in the UK.
Assessment Criteria
• academic merit
• originality of proposal
• relationship to and volume of research already in the
field
• feasibility of research programme
• specificity of scheme of research
• intended outcomes
A few tips…
• don’t copy and paste!
• be clear, coherent and straight to the point
• be convincing and self-confident
• demonstrate expertise (previous research)
• but be innovative and go beyond your previous
projects
• valorise publications
• don’t underestimate impact/KE: be creative and
detailed
• justify choice of host institution
