Alayne McLaren has over 30 years of experience in the film industry in New Zealand and the UK. She started her own video production company in 1985 in Queenstown, New Zealand, producing tourism and news videos. In the 1990s, she provided location casting and production management for films and began freelancing as a researcher and location manager for BBC documentaries. She has held production coordinator and manager roles on numerous documentary projects, and spent 18 months away from work in 2000 to have a child. Since 2001, Alayne has resumed freelance work as a line producer, location manager, and production manager for documentaries, commercials, and features filmed in New Zealand and the UK.
1. Background
1985-90 Following UK training, I set up a Video Production Company in
QUEENSTOWN, NZ
(ACTION VIDEO), filming + producing Tourism videos, News and Sports
items for Television New Zealand. I acted as Video Camera Operator/Sound
Recordist /Editor Producer and Director.
1988-94 Started MAKING MOVIES in QUEENSTOWN, New Zealand, providing
freelance Location, Casting + Production Management for overseas film
companies + TVCâs.
1994-96 Opened base in NELSON, South Island. Freelance work as
Researcher/Location and Production Manager for increasing number of BBC
Natural History and documentary productions.
1996 Production Co-ordination for Partridge Films (HTV) in the UK - Natural
History Programmes and also completed underwater camera course.
1997 Production Manager for Fulcrum Productions - UK.
2 x 50 min Geology documentaries (Discovery). Shoots in 12 different
countries.
