1. Q131. Many Muslims spend excess money
during certain ceremonies and functions is
this allowed by Islam?
Answer.
1.Wealth
in this life is an Amanat from Allah
Islam teaches its followers that all wealth in this life is actually
an Amanat (a Trust) from Allah. Allah(SWT) tests a person with
his wealth
Allah says in Surah Kahf 18:46
"Wealth and sons are allurements of the life of this world: but
the things that endure, good deeds, are best in the sight of thy
Lord, as rewards, and best as (the foundation for) hopes."
Man has to spend wealth judiciously and according to the
guidelines of Allah without any wastages.
Surah Araf 7:31 "..but waste not be excess, for Allah loveth not
the wasters."
When a person dies all the wealth is taken away from him.
Only what remains are his deeds. Then a king and a beggar are
at par! The one whose good deeds are more heavy will be the
more successful one.
2.Excessive
spenders are brothers of Satan
Allah says in the Qur'an in Surah Al Isra 17:46-47
"but squander not (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift.
Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the evil ones; and the evil
one is to his Lord (himself) ungrateful."
3.Every
Situation has to be judged individually
For one person a car may be Israf (Excessive spending) while
for another person it may not be. However whoever the person
wastages can never be justified. Many Muslims spend large
amount of money in marriages just to get more honour in
society. They are clearly going against the above verses of the
Qur'an.
