MONEY

                       History of Money

Barter system- exchange of goods for other goods Grains- live stock
Cowrie shells were used as medium of exchange
later currency /coins of gold and silver came into existence
Today we have paper currency and coins as mode of payment
What is Money?
What image/ meaning does the word money bring to your mind?

 Wealth, riches, affluence, prosperity, opulence, assets, capital
reserves, property, lands, savings, possessions, belongings…

 Money can be understood in three ways
     Medium of exchange
     Measure of value
 Means of payment- official currency/ paper money
How much money do we need?
 A Child may say - “lots of money”… Tens perhaps?
 Adolescents will say - hundreds and thousands…
 Adults count expenses in thousands, lakhs and crores…
 Retired people – General acceptance is people in 60’s and above? Of
late even this is being redefined… Retired are becoming “Re-Tyred”
                             *      *      *
 A happy, contented man says, “I have more than I need”.
 The answer will be based upon the inherent samskara of the person.
What is this Samskara?
 Samskara may be defined as the inherent tendency of man.
 This can also be based upon the Gunas.
 Basically there are three gunas - or qualities as they are called - Satwic,
  Rajasic and the Tamasic.

       Satwic Rajasic Tamasic
Is money essential?
 Yes. Living in this world requires money.
The world is a machine that runs on money.
Every service, or product we need is provided to us only with the
exchange of money or money’s worth.
As long as there is a balance between our income and our Desires, Wants
and Needs… we are at peace.
Only when GREED for “Money” becomes more important than NEED
for money - we have problems.
Why do we require Money?
The basic needs of life, food, clothing and shelter entail the
  possession of money.
How much money does one require for these fundamental
  necessities?
 This again depends upon various factors.

 The level of life into which you are born - Status
Your wishes and desires – Need to Achieve
Most important, your Character – What you really are!
There are two sides to a coin
 Money has no mind of its own. It exists to be used Or Mis-used.
Our Mind is the key to make proper use of Money.
The good way…
 Live within ones means.
 Spend only when necessary – not on a whim or passing fad.
 Plan out your expenses and work out your plan.
 Save up and be prepared for a “rainy day”.
Yes… these may sound like mom’s or dad’s advice, when you got
your first job…but these are still the golden rules of living. And
  you know it.
Do not let money be your master
 Master the mind, be a master mind.
 Money comes and goes, morality comes and grows.
 It is easy to lose oneself in the pursuit of money. Once lost, we
spend a lifetime in search of ourselves.
 What goes around comes around – the more you give, the more
you get… This is true – rest assured – it works!
 Happiness lies not in having “loads of money” – it lies in using that
  money… properly.
 It is all a question of Choice… which side of the coin would you
  choose?
