1. "Destination Life", Phuket, Thailand - Blog 6
Shortly after visiting Singapore and sailing further between Sumatra and Malaysia we arrived to
Phuket, Thailand on July 27, 2013. Again the heat and humidity was overwhelming and I burned to
crisp again! (This seems to be the mantra of my long journey) .
Phuket is a picturesque Island (ca 12 miles wide and 30 miles long.) with breathtaking white sandy
beaches, rice farms, coconut plantations and awesome blu - azure waters.. Next to its mainly Thai,
Chinese and Malay Moslems population a unique and mysterious tribe with its own language is
living on Phuket Island. Nobody really knows their origin. They are known as "Sea Gypsies", because
they often relocate their entire villages. Phuket was also heavily damaged by the 2004 tsunami,
Phuket Town is located in the South and famous for its shellfish. I visited Thailand first in 2005. I
truly learned to love this so beautiful and multifaceted Country and its so friendly and polite people.
So I was really excited to go ashore in beautiful Thailand again.
I had a nice visit in the City and in a shopping mall. Travelers beware; it is kind of tricky to cross the
streets. Many small motorcycles, huge tour busses, took tooks (cheap open taxis) and local
transport vehicles coming at you from every direction! Also the side walks have high and uneven
steps to climb over. I saw an older man with a cane getting stranded in midst of the endless "river"
of the buzzing traffic, i met wonderful local people at the market and so I was able to learn a lot
about this awesome place. Sadly I not had the opportunity to ride an Elephant again. I truly love
Elephants! The time just seems to fly by in ports To live so long on ships is just like living in a dream
World with constantly changing vistas and impressions. But I truly enjoyed to have a glimpse into
the so interesting life in this truly beautiful Island. One of my favorite phots is the store with the
chairs. It really impressed me. Thank You ; PuakeaJutka
I do these blogs under very hard circumstances in high and sometimes extremely rough seas on my
iPad and with a painfully slow satellite wi fi. Even I have an app that permits me upload files to the
iReport site, it takes too long to upload 10 pictures, so I have to use the iMove app to able to show
all the ten photos. I apologize for this, but during the ship travel to upload more as 1 picture at the
time is a "mission" impossible!
I WOULD LIKE TO PLACE THIS REPORT IN THE CATEGORY "PHOTO ESSAYS; YOUR STORIES IN
PICTURES" (I am not able to place a report in the iMove app.)
2. Please visit my previous blogs, especially the first one, where I explain why I am sailing around the
World.
