This presentation was presented by Sachin Motwani (the creator of this PPT) for his 'Professional Communications' Lab in College as a 'Presentation' Activity.
Here, he described the ways in which Indian Culture (Hindu) is science based technical system, with special focus on birth & death rituals & beliefs.
Ps. This was more of a verbal presentation. Slide notes are elaboration of what the slide displays.
8. How do they do it?
• Historical Village
• Gotr
Every family has its own
lineage pandit.
9. *Names change with Yuga change
Saptarishis
(the seven holy sages)
• Mind-born sons of lord Brahma
• Founders of the Vedic Religion
• All Hindus are the descendants of one of these
• Inter-gotra marriages not allowed
(sibling marriages expose normally recessive genes)
10. Why men?
• Gotra system biased
• Focusses mainly on male lineages
• Y Chromosome passed down only
between the men in a lineage
• Women do not carry Y
Chromosome
• Hence, the Gotra of a woman is
said to be that of her husband after
marriage.
How many of you relate to it?
Let’s recall them for one more time to realize why we actually have to follow all those traditions BUT the form that we all agree to find logic in viz, Scientific Perspective.
Let’s just see why do we need to do it!
Can you guess where this pic could be of?
Haridwar
People have been coming to this holy place since ages to pay it a visit and to immense the ashes of their loved ones who pass away.
Why do we have to go there?
For centuries when Hindu ancestors visited the holy town of Haridwar for any purpose which may have mostly been for pilgrimage purposes or/and for cremation of their dead or for immersion of ashes and bones of their kin after cremation into the waters of the holy river Ganges as required by Hindu religious custom, it has been an ancient custom to go to the Pandit who is in charge of ones family register and update the family's genealogical family tree with details of all marriages, births and deaths from ones extended joint family.
People come here to know about their ancestors. They also report about the events such as marriage and birth of a child.
These Bahi contain records of twenty to thirty or even more generations of the families.
Before the numbers are recorded toughly background checking is done.
We get confused in organizing our day to day family documents.
Here, to maintain the ‘bahi’ of millions, we have an army of just 2500 pandits.
Can google tell you this much info ever?
Apparently No!
it is believed that people belonging to the same gotra also belong to the same caste in the Hindu social system.
It is genetically dangerous as it can expose normally hidden recessive genes which leads to genetic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis, Tay Saks, hemophilia etc.., this can still happen with first cousin marriages and even second cousin marriages.
Taboo: Hindus are male dominating
Honor your culture and traditions. Some reason’s have been forgotten, some are yet to be found , but then, these do have a logic.
