1. The Marine Corps has a process called the Targeting Cycle. The
Targeting Cycle is applied against the enemy in order to inflict harm or
influence. The outcome of the Targeting cycle is a desired outcome
and/or effect. The Targeting Cycle is comprised of 4 parts: Decide,
Detect, Deliver, and Assess.
Decide: provides the overall focus and sets priorities for
intelligence collection and attack planning.
Detect: identify the specific who, what, when, and how for
target acquisition.
Deliver: executes the target attack guidance and supports the
commander's battle plan.
Assess: assess the operational environment and the progress of
operations, and compare them to their initial vision and intent.
This process also provides a framework for
achieving your fitness goals.
2. Decide what you want accomplished. Whether it is
weight loss or improving general physical preparedness,
set your goals and decide what you want accomplished.
Once or twice a month
examine your efforts.
Are you exceeding
your goals? If so
adjust your goals and
set your standards
higher. Are you falling
short? Adjust your
commitment
levels…set realistic
goals....get smarter on
methodologies.
