5. What is mathematics?
● Mathematics is one of the most important subjects.
Mathematics is a subject of numbers, shapes, data,
measurements and also logical activities.

6. ❏ Matrix, a set of numbers arranged in rows and
columns so as to form a rectangular array.
❏ The horizontal lines in a matrix are called rows
and the vertical lines are called columns.

7. History of matrix:
The matrix has a long history of application in solving linear equations.
They were known as arrays until the 1800’s.
The term “matrix” (Latin for “womb”, derived from mater—mother) was
coined by James Joseph Sylvester in 1850.

8. ❏ Types of Matrices:
❖ There are many different types of matrices in linear algebra.
All types of matrices are differentiated based on their
elements, order, and certain set of conditions.
❏ What are Different Types of Matrices?
❏ Row Matrix
❏ Column Matrix
❏ Singleton Matrix
❏ Rectangular Matrix
❏ Square Matrix
❏ Identity Matrices
❏ Matrix of ones
❏ Zero Matrix
❏ Diagonal Matrix

9. ➢ Identifying Types of Matrices Based on
Dimension:
❖ Matrices are in all sorts of sizes, but
usually, their shapes remain the same.
● In this section, let's learn to identify the types of
matrices based on their dimension: 09
10. 10
● Row and Column Matrix
● Rectangular and Square Matrix
10
11. 11
❏ Constant
Matrices
● Constant matrices are matrices in which
all the elements are constants for any
given dimension/size of the matrix.
11
12. ❏ Diagonal Matrix
● A square matrix in which all the elements are 0
except for those elements that are in the diagonal
is called a diagonal matrix.
12
13. ❏ Upper and Lower Triangular Matrix
13
❖ An upper triangular matrix is a square matrix
where all the elements that are present below
the diagonal elements are 0.
❏ Boolean Matrix
A matrix is considered to be a boolean
matrix when all its elements are either 1s
and 0s. Let's consider the example of the
matrix B to understand this better: 13
14. ❖ In conclusion, the matrix we are is useful and powerful in
the mathematical analysis and collecting data. Besides the
simultaneous equations, the characteristic of the matrices
are useful in the programming where we putting in array
that is a matrix also to store the data.
