2. Like Bali, Singapore is a beautiful country I am
proud to call my home. I am fortunate to have
been able to explore its many attractions and
beautiful cityscape. If you are planning for a visit,
here are the top interesting things you wouldn’t
want to miss.
Introduction
3. Merlion Statue
03
Located in Merlion Park, this mythical statue has the head of a lion
and the body of a fish, both of which are representative of
Singapore’s history. The lion is symbolic of Singapore’s name,
whereas the fish symbolizes Singapore’s beginnings as a fishing
village. It was sculpted by Lim Nang Seng in 1972 and initially
located at the mouth of the Singapore River. In 2002, it was
relocated to Merlion Park after the Esplanade Bridge was completed.
The statue shares its home with a smaller Merlion statue named
“Merlion Cub.” It is a remarkable statue and is a popular spot for
photos.
4. Gardens by the Bay
With over 50 million visitors to date, this
attraction consists of three sections (Bay South,
Bay East, and Bay Central) on 101 hectares of
reclaimed land. There are biodomes and
supertrees, which are a testament to
Singapore’s commitment to sustainability and
green space. The biodomes house over 800
species of flora. Also, the OCBC Skywalk
connects six of the supertrees providing
spectacular views of these futuristic gardens.
5. Night Safari
It is the world’s first nocturnal zoo, located next to the
Singapore Zoo. You’ll explore six geographical regions
during your tour which features nearly 100 species and 900
animals – 41% are on the threatened animal species list. The
zoo takes great pride in its wildlife conservation efforts. Their
captive breeding programme, for example, has successfully
bred Malaysian tigers, fishing cats, bantengs, and more.
Dining in the zoo would also be a unique experience as you
can dine with fire-eating tribal dancers or eat in a tipi tent.
6. There is a great deal more to see and do in
Singapore, but these places are the most
interesting for your first (or maybe fifth) visit here.
Every attraction that I have shared above
showcases Singapore in its own way and is very
easy to locate.
