There is a lot of reluctance within organisations to place ScrumMasters, let alone to spend money to hire them. Surely this role can be done by one of the developers, right? After all, it’s only a minor role, isn’t it? Far from it! The ScrumMaster is a full-time role. Without it, who can take care of the agile process on behalf of a busy Scrum team? One way to help teams and management understand the value of the ScrumMaster’s role is to show them the volume and importance of tasks a ScrumMaster can fulfil, and the consequences of what happens if nobody takes care of these tasks. This session not only presents the 42 tasks of a ScrumMaster’s role but will clearly show that every Scrum team needs a ScrumMaster.

There are dozens of public compound databases now available online, some of these providing access to tens of millions of chemical compounds. However, very little effort has been put into the delivery of databases of chemical reactions with the majority of large resources being commercial in nature. In our five years of delivering chemical based data resources to the chemistry community one of the primary requests has been that chemists want to know how to synthesize many of the chemicals they are researching. This presentation will provide an overview of our concerted efforts to enhance access to freely available chemistry data and will discuss the ChemSpider Reactions as an integrating hub of content including data extracted from US patents, from RSC Journals and databases and from our micro-publishing platform ChemSpider Synthetic Pages (CSSP).

User Stories are a fantastic agile tool, but they are not the only way for the product owner and team to reach a mutual understanding of what needs to be delivered. This workshop explores the use of hypotheses and experiments from the Lean Startup community as an alternative to user stories. We examine ways for agile teams to reframe stories (e.g. As a traveller I want to know the weather so that I can plan my journey) as a series of hypothesis (e.g. Supplying weather information will increase ticket sales) that are validated by experiments (e.g. Does supplying hard-coded weather data for our two most popular routes increase ticket sales?). Having the whole team involved in discovering business value ensures alignment across the organisation. You will see how using hypotheses and experiments brings advantages to the development team, the customer, and the user - ensuring we only build valuable features. Stop telling stories about your product - start asking questions. (presented at Agile 2013)

The first one mentioned is the impact of shorter release cycles on testing: “release cycles will get shorter, so short even that there’s no time for testing.” In this talk Alex shares what he learned about this topic during the last four years, on his journey with two companies. In both companies he helped to change the release rhythm dramatically, which had a deep impact on the all facets of the test strategy, of course including cooperation and communication structures. Whereas some lessons learned are obvious, others are unexpected and even counter-intuitive.

We do this in a variety of different ways from face to face to blended and distance learning. Increasingly technology is providing innovative ways to enhance teaching and learning and to engage learners. This may include the use of video, audio and images as well as Web 2.0 tools and social media. The potential to socially share this knowledge and to use technology to mediate this process is an important aspect of our own professional development. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine.
