Q. Access point devices are ceiling mounted. For a room with stadium seating, do the users at the top
seats (cheap seats) get a better signal than the users toward the bottom (expensive seats)?
A. An RF site survey and access point placement can address this. Generally speaking, it depends on the
orientation of the access point. Remember that it radiates dow n and outw ard in 360 (w hen ceiling mounted) or lying
on the floor logo side up.
Q. Is there an autonomous Cisco IOS® Software version of the 4800 for conducting wireless surveys?
A. New Wave 2 access points use Mobility Express for "autonomous like” surveys. For details, see:

Q. What tools do you use to measure and design for the Bluetooth LE functionality?
A. There are tools from TI and third-party apps for most popular phones that can decode and show signal strength,
etc.
Q. Is there an -e version (for external antennas) of the 4800 access point?
A. Not at this time. We recommend the Cisco® Aironet® 3800e Access Point for installations requiring external
antennas.
Q. I do not control the device of the workers that put the device into place. I just see 100 users attempting
to take an online exam and having connection issues and such.
A. When this occurs, Radio Resource Management can automatically sw itch on dual 5 GHz, low ering utilization
and distributing (balancing) the inrush of users.
Q. Does the Aironet 4800 use internal antennas?
A. Yes.
Q. How far can the internal antenna go, and what is the difference in range between the external and
internal antennas (is there any significant difference)?
A. The internal antenna allow s for placement of one access point per 2500 sq. ft. or so. The external antenna
allow s for directional antennas that allow the energy to be focused in a particular direction, so it w ill go further in the
direction it is pointed.

Q. Can I mix different access points—say the 3800 Series and the 4800 or the 2700 Series and the 4800?
A. For the complete Cisco DNA Center™ experience (and for complete packet capture across different access
points), it is best not to "salt and pepper" access points. Group like access points together; for example, have the
4800s on one floor and the other product on a different floor.
Q. Does BLE provide the power to the access point or just for itself?
A. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is built into the access point for future applications, such as w ayfinding, location,
alerts, etc., much better than a battery-pow ered BLE that has a higher maintenance cost. Additionally, the access
point can centrally manage other BLE beacons.
Q. Will the analytics work on a 5508 wireless controller?
A. The 5508 is not pow erfulenough for the 8.7 code, so unfortunately you need a new er controller, as there is
limited DNA Center functionality in the 8.5 release (the last release supported on the 5508).
Q. What is the retail cost of this high-end "Cadillac" of Wi-Fi systems?
A. Cisco DNA™ really shines w hen you have the new 4800 access points. We are running specials to encourage
people to move to DNA Center and the 4800. Reach out to your local account team for more.
Q. Will Cisco Prime® Infrastructure be able to take advantage of Intelligent Capture, or just DNA Center?
A. DNA Center w ith Assurance is needed for Intelligent Capture.
Q. Are enclosures best to use for installing access points?
