Mii Life

 1. 1. Mii Life By: Rachel (Warren) Burnette
 2. 2. Testimony

Rev. 12:11a says that we have defeated him “Satan” by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony .

I would like to share my testimony with you.

Some of the things I am going to share with you are graphic, but vital if you are to understand why I am so “coo coo” for God!

 3. 3. Life as a Toddler

By the time I was three years old, my maternal grandfather had raped all but a few of his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, he also assaulted various friends of the family.

I did not escape his gruesome touch.

 4. 4. Life as a Young Child

Bounced between three schools by second grade and emotionally and mentally scarred from sexual abuse. Making friends was nearly impossible.

Teachers thought that I was disobedient, but I received nearly straight A’s until high school.

 5. 5. Life as a Preteen

Several students were jealous of my academic and artistic abilities and worked to make my life a living hell. Constant insults and a barrage of comments directed to my character was an everyday occurence.

Boys became increasingly interesting as did not listening to my parents.

 6. 6. My Life as a Teenager

By the age of 13, I knew exactly what I wanted. My best friend had moved out of town, and the grass looked way better on the other side of town.

I lost my virginity to a 19 year old boy days after I turned 13.

This would be the beginning of many a wrong decision.

 7. 7. Life as a Young Mother

By 14 years old I was raped again, this time pregnant to a man that I am unsure of to this day. My inability to make sound choices or to see that abuse had left it’s ugly mark upon my life made for more disaster.

I begged my mother to let my boyfriend move in, & began smoking & drinking on a regular basis.

My biological father died that year, but not without disowning me in his last will first. Romans 8:17

 8. 8. Not So Sweet Sixteen

With a major attitude, and years of suppressed anger, anyone within range felt my wrath. This led to physical altercations with police, my parents, and my sister.

A full depression had erupted, and I withdrew from my high school due to mental instability.

 9. 9. 17 not much better…

At 17, a miracle occurred, and I graduated high school 12 th out of 115 students in my class with a 3.4 GPA.

I had lost sixty five pounds that year and had a great job.

Two months later, I got pregnant with my second child...

 10. 10. 19 years, and It All Fell Apart

At 19 years old, I got pregnant once more, this time I had decided enough was enough.

After finding my boyfriend in bed with my sister’s friend after investing five years into that relationship, I decided to put my “adult” skills to the test.

After three months as a single mother, I failed…

 11. 11. Roaring 20’s

In September of 1997, I accepted Jesus Christ as my “personal” Savior.

I thought this is great, my life will be wonderful now! I can do anything! After all accepting Christ as your savior means that everything is coming up roses, right?

 12. 12. Roaring 20’s

For nearly a year, I thought that I was possessed by the devil. For three years, I could not sleep, I could barely eat, and my life was filled with constant torment and fear. I had literally “lost my mind” and had to be hospitalized on more than one occasion.

But I had accepted Christ as my Savior?!

 13. 13. Roaring 20’s

I tried to kill myself three times. Once at 14. Twice in my twenties. The third time, I almost accomplished my wish, and knew I had to make some changes.

So I moved out of my grandma’s house, as I did not want to LISTEN TO ANYONE, and went to live in a projects complex in Warren.

 14. 14. Roaring 20’s

While at the complex, things went from bad to worse. I had such a bad drug and alcohol addiction that I kept going to the hospital every other month for help.

By the third request, a doctor finally contacted Children Services.

 15. 15. The Day My Life REALLY Changed

A knock came on my door, a quarter to twelve, a cool October day in 1999.

A lady came and said it is time for me to get up and that my children would be going with her now.

I was angry at her, but deep inside I really didn’t care.

 16. 16. 23 Years Old and Washed Up

I thought, “Hey, I have had a hard life so far, maybe I don’t want these kids?”

A month went by and I started using harder drugs, my reasoning was no kids, no worries, right?

November 30 th , 1999 was the last time that I touch a drug to this day.

 17. 17. 23 Years and Counting

I don’t know what it was really. I just “knew” that if I kept up the way I was going that eventually I was going to be dead or disabled, and I didn’t care for either of those options. For the first time in my life I was simply learning how to OBEY!

 18. 18. 23 and Counting

After extensive drug and alcohol counseling, countless AA meetings, one on one therapy sessions, anti-depressants, anti-psychotics and anger management classes my children were returned to me March 1 st , 2000.

 19. 19. Roaring 20’s

With no more than lawn furniture for living room attire and a new spring in my step, I sat out on the greatest adventure I could ever dare to share with you.

The story about how Jesus Christ transformed a helpless, pitiful, tyrant into the image of beauty he has unfolded in and through my life now. Isaiah 61:3

 20. 20. Things Started Making Sense

I found great success in entrepreneurship and began a successful home based business.

From that I worked my way up from an Activities Aide at a nursing home to a Marketing and Admissions Director for eventually four different nursing homes.

 21. 21. The Pieces Kept Coming Together

I was able to purchase a home and a brand new car by myself.

My children were in baseball, cheer leading, dance, gymnastics, enrichment programs, leads in plays, musicals, and the like. We were constantly on the go!

Everywhere I went, grace and mercy followed me. The favor of the Lord upon my life. Psalm 90:17; Lamentations 3:23

 22. 22. The Day God Removed My Reproach

I was a single mother for at least 36,500 days. During the majority of that time, I did not have live in boyfriends, I did not hanky-panky with guys, I did not go to bars, or even look for a guy. As a matter of fact, I prayed let every man that is not from you stay far from my door step…

 23. 23. My Knight in Shining Armor

Now the Lord knew my past, and I am not going to share all the juicy details, as some things are better left between you and the Lord, but I had had my fill of lewd living and been waiting a very long time for a prince.

I had made a list (I kid you not) of 50 qualities that I wanted in a husband. I had also revised that list at least four times.

 24. 24. My Knight in Shining Armor

When John and I dated God literally snapped us together one quality at a time until nearly every quality had met my already very specific expectations. (He failed the “Not an Italian quality, LOL”)

Psalm 37:4 says Delight yourself in the Lord (OBEY HIM!, added for free) and He will give you the desires of your heart!

 25. 25. People Say, Huh?

Some people may say, you are faking it, you could not possibly be that HAPPY?! John 15:11

Some people may say, I don’t want to talk to her, she talks about JESUS too much. Deut. 6:7

 26. 26. People Say, Huh?

Some people may say, what a freak, way too much time on your hands?!

After all, we can say whatever we want to each other now that we don’t have to live with the consequences, right?

Matthew 12:36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

 27. 27. All I’m Saying…

All I’m saying is that God is real! Jesus loves you! And that if you want something really, really good going on in your life, then ask him to come into your heart and be your Lord. Stop trying to figure out life on your own. It will never, ever work!

Oh and what is really cool, is that NO MATTER WHAT you are going through today, and believe me I am still going through! Jesus makes your life enjoyable, full of peace, and love!

 28. 28. In Conclusion

Accepting Christ as my Savior was the most important decision I have ever made in my life! I encourage you to allow him to love you. Let him love you in the mess of your life and watch him turn your life into something so beautiful and amazing that all you will want to do is tell others how awesome He is!!!

Psalm 34: 8 Taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man (or woman) that takes refuge in him!

 29. 29. My Life Scripture

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

GOD BLESS YOU!

Love, Rachel 
