An Act amending title 29 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 3, section 229 to limit the structures
on St. John to no more than three stories
PROPOSED BY: Senator Craig W. Barshinger
1 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands:
2 SECTION 1. Title 29 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 3, section 229 is amended in
3 subsection (e) “maximum height limit” by inserting at the end of the sentence “except that on
4 the island of St. John, no residential structure may exceed three stories, and in no residential
5 structure may the eave height exceed fifty feet, nor may the roof top exceed sixty feet in
6 height above the original grade or the final grade”.
7 SECTION 2. Title 29 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 3, section 229 is amended in
8 subsection (f) by inserting at the end of the sentence “and in no residential structure on the
9 island of St. John may the eave height exceed fifty feet, nor may the roof top exceed sixty
10 feet in height above the original grade or the final grade.

2 BILL SUMMARY
3 This Bill limits the height of residential buildings to no more than three stories with a
4 maximum height of sixty feet including the eave and roof top.
