• How is procurement done in the industry (e.g., GPOs, Master Distributors,
General Contractors, etc.)
• Have you focused on the customers’ key supplier?
• Know the company you want to do business with
• What are their REAL needs?
• Is economic inclusion part of the DNA of the culture?
• Do you understand the company’s future growth areas?
• Are you looking for a contract (transactional) or to be a long-term vendor
(strategic)?
• How prepared are you to compete?
• Are you a start-up? Can you scale up your operation?
• Have you targeted the size customer you can really service?
• Do you sell what everyone else does (IT, staffing, etc.)?
• Are you willing to partner with other firms?
• Are you persistent…but know when to move on!

5. Future of Supplier Diversity in Health Care
• More institutions will have to be focused/engaged into the future
• Health Systems
• Group Purchasing Organizations (Premier, Vizient, Health Trust, etc.)
• Large multi-national suppliers (Siemens,GE, Hill-Rom, etc.)
• Health Insurers (e.g., United Health Care, Humana, etc.)
• Healthcare Supplier Diversity practitioners need to be developed and empowered
• A solid “business case” for supplier diversity in healthcare needs developing
• Supplier Diversity will become more strategic as it grows across the country in
Healthcare
• It will take a few years to catch up with other industries
