Captain D. Michael Abrashoff experience commanding the USS Benfold has become legendary. When he took over the ship
it was armed with every cutting-edge system available, but lacked productivity. The slogan “It’s your ship,” represents the
command climate he created, that of a confident crew, inspired problem solvers eager to take the initiative and take
responsibility for their actions. The Benfold became recognized as a model of efficiency. Captain D. Michael Abrashoff left
the navy in 2001 and became the founder of Grassroots Leadership, Inc. in Boston.
