-patientaskedtoperformfunctional movementslike wettinglipsandswallowing,
-patientwere askedtorelax.andthe distance pointsmeasured.
2)tactile sensation:
Askpatienttostand eract and openhismouthwide till he feelsdiscomfortinhismusclesof
mastication.nextpatientisaskedtoclose mouthslowly.patientinstructedtostopclosingwhenhe/she
feelsthathis/hermusclesare totallyrelaxedandcomfortable.the distance betweenthe tworeference
pointsisrecordedandcomparedto the measurementrecordedbyswallowingmethod.thismethod
reliesonpatient’sperceptionof relaxion,andwill varyforeachindividual.hence,atleastone additional
methodshouldbe carriedoutto confirmthese reading.

borderof the mandible shouldbe measured

By repetedMin certainnumberof timesandthe distance betweenthe tworeference pointismeasured
immediatelyafterthe patientstopsordentistcouldkeeptalkingtothe patientsuntil the patientstop
and tiredthenmeasurementtaken.
